Microbiome testing

Hi

I'm in the UK and was wondering if anyone knows any microbiome testing companies I could use? I used to use Atlas but they appear to have gone bust as not selling anymore tests :( I found them really useful, and gave me good insights that I could then research via medical papers. But i'm gutted that they have gone bust as i just finished an allergy elimination diet and last time I tested, things had gotten worse so i really wanted to do a new test.

Hi Liz. I've had mine tested as part of being signed up to the Zoe studies, but I know Chuckling Goat do them.

Chuckling Goat look really good but so expensive . How did you find Zoe studies, did it help?

Zoe has been brilliant for me. I found the results of the gut test fascinating and it incentivised me to make diet changes (I’m now eating predominantly plant based), but I also discovered I have really bad blood sugar control which is why I kept needed to eat every couple of hours to avoid getting faint and light headed. Since changing my diet in line with Zoe and Glucose Goddess guidance I feel so much better and can go several hours happily without eating.

Ah what sort of guidance? They unfortunately exclude people with food intolerances and so i cant do the testing,, i asked if they could just do the gut testing but they said not at this time. I also find the results interesting and chuckling goat have a handbook which describes all the types of bacteria and what they eat which i found helpful. Atlas also said gut bacteria love wholegrains so i made that adjustment a year or more ago and think it has helped a bit. I have buckwheat and millet a lot more than white rice now. And i also added back beans as had stopped eating them so much on low fodmap diet. I do find food avoidance helps the most tho but not realistic if you want to eat out ever :( I told my friend who had ibs (and was thinking of going vegan) that it would probably work better than low fodmap diet and he did Zoe also and said he scored brilliantly on everything, so he thinks his ibs is stress now. Tho i think he was feeling better for a while, not sure if permanently tho from being vegan, i'll ask him next time. I dont know what i ate this week, prob too much cheese but my stomach has been gargling like crazy last few days. Has plant based made a huge difference to your ibs?

I also sometimes wonder if we are pathologising normal symptoms? As the human zoo project said tribal kids who ate root vegetables had huge swollen bellies from the acidic diet or something? I wonder what happened to that project, whether its stopped now. Like im sure some level of gas and bloating must be normal? Maybe people who just eat meat and processed food and no veg, don't get gas? I dont know. Tho obviously pain isnt normal. As i've added back some fodmaps and have bloating and bit of gas but perhaps shouldnt worry about it. Tho i prefer not to have it?
