You're not being a pest, bungi1961. I am not surprised you're fed up. IBS is so mean to us. I feel very fed up with it too, and I don't even have it as bad as you.

It's like, what was always a perfectly natural body function which I did every morning and never thought about, suddenly became some dark cloud over my life with different levels of something scary about it!

I feel the unpredictability of suddenly-occurring negative body things that happen, creates a kind of PTSD. We can't trust anything any more and don't know what's going to hit us next. So I do understand that.

We get to learn negative things, like when our tummies suddenly start making noises for no reason, then could that be something terrible about to happen? I remember when my gut gurgled or I farted and didn't give it a second thought! Back in the old days.

Plus the unpredictable effect foods can have. I can eat some foods one week, or even for a few weeks, and then not again for x amount of weeks when I can mysteriously eat them again! But that is a nuisance when grocery shopping for the coming week, and I have had to waste so much nice food.

So, what tablets does the doctor prescribe for you?

Hi Luisa22

Having read your post I think (with your permission) if we were all to copy from "It's like --- to nice food." we could read/give it to doctors, friends etc , most of whom don't really understand IBS unless they suffer themselves. It explains so clearly how we suffer both bodily and mentally.

Bungi1961 Sorry to have hi-jacked your post but you are not alone, everyone on here is so helpful & caring xxx

Hi bungiI agree with Luisa and their comments.

I've had a flare up and it's very anxiety provoking. No idea what to eat or not to eat. Dread mornings waiting to see how tummy is as so capricious.

I'm assuming you've had all the tests.

At least we can know it's a common chronic condition and manage it somehow. That's the difficult bit.

I try to relax with it and consider others have worse health issues. Not easy though.

Anxiety makes it worse so just have to attempt to be positive. Easier said than done, but possible.

I wish you all the best.

Please do t think your a pest either.

That's what this sites about to express our concerns worries

Sorry to hear that you are going through this Bungi1961.

I agree with Luisa22 and Elgar1961.

What medications are you taking?

So sorry to hear this. I am exactly the same. I have no life anymore. I constantly worry . Is there sthg else going on ? I feel really depressed. I am on anxiety tablets due to having ibs. I now feel these are causing more problems?

I don't know what tablets you're on. But it's possible they may not be helping if you have IBS D and the tablets are SSRI drugs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) If you have IBS C however, they may help, I have no experience with antidepressant drugs but "have heard" that Tricyclic antidepressants are better if you have IBS D. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about it?

But having IBS can cause a form of rational anxiety anyway. My own personal opinion (I am NOT a doctor!) is that is quite natural and doesn't need medicating with anti anxiety drugs as it is not an "anxiety disorder", but rather, a natural response to a scary body upset. It's a solution for the IBS symptoms which is needed, not an anxiety drug. That is only my personal opinion, and I am not suggesting quitting a prescription you have been given by your doctor! He/she probably knows an awful lot more about your medical condition than I could.

So sorry to hear you are suffering but you are not alone I am exactly the same and it has caused bad anxiety for me. I am trying NHS talking therapy tomorrow to help me cope with IBS and fecal accidents. I have to cancel so many invitations and appointments it's so depressing and disabilitating. Please continue to post on this group we are all here for each other.

Hi I understand how you feel. When you get a flare up it seems to go on forever. I went to a hotel with my husbands for the night with dinner and breakfast as a birthday treat. Half way through it started and I felt quite ill, couldn't get off the toilet. I was so upset it spoil it. If I have to go anywhere it's the same. I did manage to think a happy thought that seemed to halt it till I arrived at my destination by that time I had calmed down.

One thing for sure, is that we all have an understanding of how you feel, it really is a miserable journey which seems to have no end.

There are several things that may help, firstly look at your diet and see if there are any triggers that appear on the FODMAP and cut them out. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, have regular meals and plenty of sleep. You may find Citalopram or Almotriptan helps hugely along with a good multistrain probiotic each day.

I'm going to trail a product called FeroCalm next week, which seems extremely promising for IBS and possibly IBD and I'll come back with my findings once it's had a good run out through my system over a few weeks.

Hi bungi1961, sending you SO much sympathy! You're not being a pest, here you have people who listen and understand, because we all know how it feels, and sometimes getting it off your chest helps with the frustration. It's so hard to do anything 'normal' because the tyrant in your gut won't let you. I wish I had some tips to offer you, I'm so sorry I haven't - I've been eating the most bland, safe food possible for weeks now, and my gut has decided yet again to have a party, and I'm glad I'm working from home! You would really think science would have come up with something by now - although I do appreciate it's being worked on - if they'd just get a move on! Anyway - good luck, and wishing you some good days at least, where you can relax

Hi bungi1961 I know how you feel and pray that you get some relief real soon . It is absolutely awful. I was diagnosed as having IBS due to having tummy problems for many years but was able to live a near normal life. However over the past year or so I have had numerous antibiotics for various illnesses and my guts are on fire 🔥. My gp has suggested omeprazole 2x20 mg per day and Peptac when required . After telephone consultation 2 wks ago she now thinks it may be Gallstones and has requested an ultrasound scan. Having had H pylori twice and gastritis I feel that I have either of them again. Fit test x2 ok poop test for H pylori neg

Can IBS cause this much pain and discomfort?

Sorry for the rant . I wish you well and I don’t know what I would to without the support and advice from you lovely people on here .
