My complaint has been going on for at least 10 years now and the symptoms get worse every year but I am unsure of how to proceed.
My symptoms.
Every intake of breath seems to increase the pressure in my oesophagus and every few seconds I have to either break the seal by flexing my throat to intake some air and then belch to relieve the pressure at the top of my chest, this can happen hundreds or possibly even a 1000 times every day.
If I don't belch then the pressure will get to the point that a contraction happens in my chest and I can feel air travelling down into my stomach.
Eating pretty much anything can cause heartburn but things like orange juice, pizza, bread or processed meats will make it much worse. Omeprazole was a godsend when I first took it 7 years ago but my own research suggests this is one drug that I need to cut out - my eGFR is now below 60 which is quite possibly a result of PPIs.
I have spoken to doctors about my complaint numerous times but I just come away with another script for a PPI. I have had 2 endoscopys, one 8 years ago and another 2 years ago which were both horrific experiences but apart from some scarring they did not find anything. I have also had a Barium swallow test that they reported as very slow to swallow but again they did not follow up.
Anyone know what this sounds like or how I can get a diagnosis? I have BUPA
