I got diagnosed with bile acid malabsorption last year January i have colesevelam for it was taking 3 a day but was getting really bad constipation, gastroenterologist said to just take 1 a day so i have been for the last few months but still getting constipation i dont eat a load of junk food i eat quite healthy i have to take movicol or laxido to get me going it does work after a few days . But this question is weird over the last few months i have had really itchy skin more round the knee area docs said it could be pruritus but i have been told that the bile acids can make your skin itch any one suffer with this any advice on the itching and the constipation

Hi, I also have BAM and take binders. The itching drives me mad especially from my knee down. I was told its a side effect of the binders and I use Eurax to help with the itching at night. WIth the binders, its about finding the dose for you without being constipated. Maybe try one tablet every other day etc to see if it helps and then build up from there if need be.

Thanks for the reply yeah i use eurax for the itchy ness never new the bile acid could cause itchy skin

I have BAM but just border line. I am told that diarrhoea is the main symtom and strangely I have constipation? So the meds forBAM would make me worse. Anyone else heard of this. The Docs have no exclamation?

The colesevelam i am on causes constipation so its one extreme to the other dont think the doctor and the gastroenterologist know that much about the bile acid malabsorption i never heard of it until i got diagnosed a year ago
