I have been given so many laxatives, stool softeners by my gp I am thoroughly confused and still haven’t got rid of it from September! I have Laxido, went up to 8 sachets for 2 days. Like soup. Docusate. Ispaghula Husk half a sachet a day. I have used syrup of figs, senakot, I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Still suffering headaches and back spasms. I have bought glycerin suppository’s, but worried about using them as I think the hard poo is stuck high in the stomach. Please advise me, you are all so knowledgeable. I’m eating so many prunes, pears etc. flaxseed in my breakfast. Have an awful lot of wind.

Having similar problems myself. Sorry don't have any answers. Been taken to hospital few times always tests show constipation high up top of bowel. Only advice given is to eat more fruit and veg and use laxatives as if I don't do that already! Causes me to end up in bed vomiting every few weeks. Loose a lot of weight. Hope someone has some answers.

what does your diet consist of? Do you understand soluble and insoluble fibre?

Just wondering if you're also taking a well studied probiotic to make you more tolerant to increases in fibre? Alflorex worked best for me. It contains Bifdobacterium which helps to digest complex carbs.

I've been in that situation, Movicol in hottish water first thing eventually sorted it.

i wonder the same….as in what to do ? I take up to twelve 25 mg senna tabs, Miralax, Metamucil, and eat as much fiber as a horse, and Iberogast daily and when I had a scan, the results reported “a large volume of stool in the colon”. After years of constipation, I finally have bowel movements almost daily, yet apparently, not I am not clearing it all. Obviously, I have a “slow transit” time…probably nerve dysfunction, if not actual damage. I have no idea what else I can do. I hope someone responds with a solution, tho I am beginning to doubt that here IS a solution.

Try colonic irrigation, should get things moving, and move some of the higher stuff round at least

The prep for a colonoscopy is Movicol or something similar, which should clear out the large bowel fully. Colonic irrigation removes all the good bacteria which is needed for digestion, so that is not recommended. Probiotics and fermented foods are supposed to help more than not, it does sound to me-no medic-but have suffered -that you may have been removing most of your digestive bugs with all the things you've thrown at your bowel! Without that 'biome' you have nothing your body can digest your food with! Ask to see a specialist, or get a private referral-all the money spent on the 'solutions' could go towards the fee!

Have you tried low carb? I am sure that sugar can make IBS worse.I have been told that sodium pico sulfate is good as it stimulates both small and large bowel.

Lots of seeds and nuts with goats milk yoghurt (I find cows milk an issue) for breakfast helps a lot. With berries, kiwi and a little apple.

Lidl do good mixed seeds and walnuts and pecans ( both relatively low carb)

Good luck
