IBS-C or Faecal loading/Narrowing of the colon

I have confirmed IBS-C since 2015 , after more testing reconfirmed 2021 IBS with predominant constipation. GP and Gasro guys have/are treating as such. However during the past 2 years BM'S have become more and more difficult requiring daily use of laxatives (Laxido) including suppositories. Also have to deal with GERD and gastris. I don't have any red flags so it's difficult to have certain test done at the local hospital.

Have an appointment with the Gastro guy this evening so I hope he will be able shed some light.

Find it difficult to manage the symptoms and not being able to establish the reason for the IBS.

Would be interrested to learn of your experience and of any symptoms regarding Faecal Loading or Narrowing of the colon.

Thank you

Just wanted to say I have no answers for you but I empathise with you have IBS and now acid reflux would be so nice to feel good either in the upper tract or lower, not coping too well with both. Good luck🍀

guitarman49, I was having severe acid reflux that omeprazole kept in check until I would lie down and then it would come up to my throat and sometimes I would spit it out. I learned vitamin B1 (thiamine) activated by magnesium may offer relief but the blood brain barrier reduced it's passage. I used a form of B1 called TTFD together with magnesium threonate that do pass and in a few days the acid reflux stopped and that is almost a year ago. Try a search on "SIBO thiamine" and "hiding in plain sight - modern thiamine deficiency" for insight. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.

Hi Pte82 Thank you , an interesting reply. Will certainly take a look and do the research.

Try Gaviscon Advance before bedtime .Works for me. I also take PPI's but I'm not realy sure how effective they are for me.

Take care

The beauty of activated B1 was it put the brain back in control and eliminated the need, by me, for OTC's

I can't speak specifically about those things, but IBS-C can be caused by a long loopy otherwise known as redundant or tortuous colon, which is often identified during a colonoscopy. This is what I have. Food takes much longer to pass through, slowing down transit. Since it spends more time in the colon, more water gets sucked out of it creating hard and difficult to pass stools. I have found that I need to eat much more fibre than other people and take a probiotic to have a BM. If you want some dietary advice about introducing more fibre, I can post it here if you want?

Hi xjrs Appreciate the reply. Can't be easy to manage.

During the meeting with my Gastro Consultant we discussed transit times and agreed to do some tests during the coming weeks. Medication was reviewd. A recent CT Scan does not show anything sinister never the less will do a colonoscopy mid September when I fully recover from a Pacemaker implant tomorrow.

Regarding dietry fiber he suggested less insoluble fiber so will give it a go for a while and up the Laxido to try and keep the stools soft and clean out the colon , get rid of the hard stuff so hopefully stool will reach the rectum and trigger a BM's.

Thanks again

hi guitar man - I have had IBS C for roughly the same time as you - all the normal tests through the years have been fine. Tried just about everything without much success. Like you I am back on Laxido, sometimes suppositories and enemas. My GP is fine but says no point in referrals to gastroenterologists at hospital for IBS as they are basically not interested. I would like to see someone but the only option is to go private. However I am just learning to cope with the early morning pains before hopefully a bowel movement and then I can have a fairly good day!

Hi Reindeer1

Thank you for the response.

Yes we have similar symptoms and health history .It's a 'pain in the butt'. Pains in the morning I find are often due to reflux acid so a Gaviscon tablet often helps and a trip to the loo for a pee.

Thankfully I'm 2 miles from a Private Hospital so I take the opportunity to make use of the facilities and Consulatations. Initial consultation around £220 with follow up £150. I had my 30 mins last night with the Consultant who listen , discussed the options and formulated a plan. So tests to check Transit times , Colonoscopy , CT scans already done.

Take care , hope all works out for the better !

Hi Cortes3

Sorry to hear of your problem . My son had his gallbladder removed , 80% of it , 20% left due to adhesions.

Have you had a colonoscopy , abdominal/pelvic CT Scan ? Might give some clue as to the pain.

Guess we just have to take steps as best we can with the help and support of the NHS.

Take care
