Hi everyone, I have been diagnosed with Hypochlorhydria due to autoimmune gastritis. This means I don't produce any stomach acid and don't absorb protein.
I was told this was quite uncommon and my GP couldn't help much apart from referring me to gastroenterologist which can take up to 18 months.
It seems there is no replacement therapy available for stomach acid.
I have heard about HCL supplements but it is unclear how many I need and whether it can cause ulcer.
I wonder if anyone had the same issue and found a way to improve the situation. Thank you, Sasha

I was just diagnosed with autoimmune atrophic gastritis. Usually it doesn't have severe symptoms, but, my symptoms are severe to the point where it's unbearable I'm miserable. My gastroenterologist told me that they really don't have any treatment for it which is, to say the least, not comforting. He asked me to try sucralfate which is supposed to coat the stomach lining and protect it. It's not working for me and is giving me a lot of side effects including worsening my constipation.Doesn't seem that your symptoms are so bad. Sorry I couldn't offer any help, but, thought I should let you know that you're definitely not alone.
