Hi I am totally confused and a bit bewildered. So I have had IBS with terrible bouts of diarrhoea for over three years. During which time I definitely had trigger foods which made it a lot worse. Going on a gluten free diet seemed to help slightly as did a fructan free diet. Also low fodmap. But didn’t stop the diarrhoea completely. Over the last few months I’ve been trying prebiotics and probiotics not helped a great deal either. The last lot I tried I took for three months they seemed to help a bit but not massively. So I decided about a month ago to stop taking them. The last two weeks I’ve had no diarrhoea and have been eating some trigger foods which I have been fine with. What the dickens is going on 🤷♀️. I’m not complaining but I am totally at a loss what’s going on after having diarrhoea for over three years. If anyone can shed some light on this I would be very grateful thank you.

IBS is very weird. It's not unheard of it to switch from C to D, or to inexplicably get better or worse.
Anything else going on your life? Reduction in stress can help.
My longstanding IBS-D appears to have changed to IBS-M. I had the usual exclusion tests-no change there. My GP said it was reasonably common for IBS to change with age, however, if you are concerned or have new symptoms please speak to your GP.
So sorry to hear all this I empathise !! Any emotional triggers my IBS is definitely worse when under severe stress and i am having counselling to deal with emotional issues, I suggest exploring counselling if you have not already done so
I heard ibs gets better for some people but not everyone.
