I had food in a restaurant and was in severe pain in about an hour after I left. Thankfully was home as I spent all night back in forth in the toilet with bad cramps and diarrhea. Last flush was with blood. Cramps continued till next day but since then I did not pass stool for 2 days. Is that normal ? I am on BRAT diet for the second day now. any one had similar episode.
My IBS is on and off but was ok for the last 5 months.
let me know please .

It's scary, but I think it can happen to pass blood with bad food poisoning. Just keep an eye on that and see the doc if it happens again after you have recovered from the food poisoning.
It's also pretty normal too, to be constipated after your gut has been all cleaned out like that..
Plus you have been on the BRAT diet which is meant to be a bit binding. I hope you feel better soon, and hopefully can start to eat a few more veggies and fruits (if they suit you) which might help to get things moving a bit better now.
Yes, it was an Indian 5 stars restaurant so we had all kinds of rice, meat and chicken. I can not even hear the name of any food when I remember the pain I went through.
Very bad feeling to be honest. I will not eat in any restaurant from now on. Every one should take extra care because food poisoning is spreading in the UK due to E.Coli so stay safe.
Given the time scale, it is unlikely to have been e coli, although I know it makes the news often, it takes 3-4 days for symptoms to happen. My guess (food tech here) is, on the basis of the rapid onset, it was more likely from poorly stored cooked rice. The spores of bacillus cereus can survive cooking, and if stored at room temp, can grow and produce toxins. This causes symptoms relatively rapidly, as you describe, but does not normally last more than 24-48 hours. If this is a common pattern for the whole party, I would be inclined to let the restaurant know.
I've had that issue with one restaurant I went to, I try to avoid that place now . I haven't had blood in my stool, I would definitely see a doctor about that . I hope you are feeling better now . I have IBS , mainly D but can be mixed .
Thank you for your reply and sorry to know that you experienced the same episode. I sometimes get blood in the stool due to the painful camps prior to passing stool, my Dr. told me nothing to worry about after undergoing both endoscopy and colonoscopy. It's the pockets in the intestine that get inflamed and causes blooded stool.
Hi again, imagine I had another episode of diarrhea last night with same symptoms, cramps and abdomenal pain along with nausea. I was ok for the last 4 days with no pain and normal stool. I had scrambled eggs for breakfast only and one banana, Any one had the same symptom after recovering for 3 days?
I am starting to get worried what would this be? why the pain and diarrhea is back.
