Hello ,to all , I've not posted for a while , but have had a rough few weeks ,so I thought I'd have a chat with people who understand. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I'd been getting some very hot sweats ,which I wasn't sure if they were connected IBS or not, I now feel sure they are as I had a really bad turn out a few days ago,and became really hot my pulse was racing and I woke to find myself on the floor having passed out,I do intend to see my Dr asap but thought I'd get your thoughts first too ,I know the vases vagal nerve may be playing a part but it's a horrible feeling .thanks for reading this

hello!! So sorry to hear that you’ve had such a terrible time atm. To reassure, I get quite bad sweats which I really think are related to my IBS. Especially when Incan feel a flare up happening, and then I overthink the flare up, the first thing that happens is sweating buckets.

So silly, but deep breathing really helps me focus on my safe space. I struggle a lot with health anxiety, which flares up my IBS pretty much everyday. But focussing that I’m safe and if I have a flare up, everything will be okay, then my sweats usually calm down!

This happens to me if I overdose on sugar. My skin goes grey, I sweat profusely and feel as if I might die, or at least pass out, plus extreme diarrhoea. I discovered this when someone gave me a box of fudge, and I couldn't leave it alone, and realised it had happened before, for example when I had eaten a large ice cream. So now, I do not put myself in that situation by keeping my sugar intake to a minimum. Others have called it dumping syndrome. It is when the bowel draws excess water into itself to dump an excess of something, in my case sugar. Other people may have different triggers. I am a similar age to you.

Thanks Babywabbys, I hadn't realised that but it's very possible ,it's a very scary experience isn't it ,I'll certainly watch my sugar intake and hope that's what it is , take care x

I remember a similar thing happening to me one night in 2018. This was a little while before more clear IBS symptoms started. I'd had a light dinner but not eaten enough. Then I was due to go to feed a neighbour's cat in the evening. Just as I was about to go out I suddenly desperately needed the toilet at 9pm which was unheard of for me. I'd been that morning quite normally, and I was always a once a day person.

I remember I passed a small completely normal healthy bowel movement, but the worst thing was I thought I was literally going to die. My heart was racing. I went tingly hot all over, broke out sweating, and the world was fading out and I was seeing bright light, and just feeling like I was about to leave the world. I am not joking.

Only the thought of someone finding my body on the toilet got me to wipe, wash, get off the toilet, wash my hands, and snapped me out of it . But I was trembling and shaking all over and felt weird, almost like nausea and could hardly get my breath.

I came downstairs and had a small shot of brandy and within a minute I felt much better. Within 15 minutes I was walking down the lane to visit the cat! And feeling okay again!

When I got back I had appetite for some more food.

I learned since that was probably a "vaso-vagal spasm."

I think it was the brain-feedback thing triggering some anxiety about what was going on in the tummy and that something highly unusual was going on. But in a nutshell, I think it was a sort of anxiety attack in my case.

That tends not to happen any more now, and I put it down to (unfortunately) getting used to my gut doing unusual things for no reason so it triggers less anxiety just because I have more exposure to it over the years since.

But I do sometimes get what feels like a hot flush when I'm having a flare up, though not as dramatic as the above. Just to the point where I have to open a window because I come over a bit too hot. It's nearly 20 years since menopause so I know it's not that.
