Gas after eating beans
I have had to give up beans. End of story. They have too much fibre and upset my belly next morning. I used to eat lots of them okay but not now. Not for 3 or more years. Sometimes I can have a dessertspoonful of peeled chickpeas (canned ones drained and washed)
Beans are well known for flatulence anyway. But they just make me "go" too much.
Cook the beans with asafoetida (hing). Pick it up at an Indian market.
Do you use canned beans and if so, do you rinse them thoroughly? Much of the FODMAPs (GOS) leaches into the water in the can. If you rinse them thoroughly that gets rid of much of the amount of FODMAPs that cause problems. There is also the fibre side of it to consider. If it is beans in tomato sauce (e.g. Heinz beans) you could equally be reacting to the tomato sauce.
Me too. I used to love adding chickpeas or borlotti beans to my stews. Made me swell up like a balloon ( and almost take off like one ) the gas was so bad.
You bet. First to go were kidney beans, then baked beans now any kind of pulse is out.
same here never touching beans here after
It took me a while to work out that in my own case it was simply the skin on each bean that gave me the problems. So the reason I can now eat chickpeas within reason is I always use canned ones, drain and wash them thoroughly, then tip out the whole can onto a big plate, put on the radio, and settle to the task of skinning every single one. There are approximately 340 chickpeas in a can. So it's a bit of a "Zen" job. But listening to the radio at the same time helps the tedium.
Then I put those peeled chickpeas in a freezer bag and when I want some, measure out X amount to add to my veggies. (usually a tablespoon but sometimes if I swing over to the "C" a bit, I can afford to live dangerously and have 3 tablespoons!!
Thus, and only thus, I can eat beans. The other types won't peel very well so I gave up on them.
