My name is Ali. I am nearly 52 and live on our dairy farm in Pembrokeshire. Had IBS for all of my life, I think, but diagnosed back in early 2000s. It did settle when I moved to West Wales in 2003 and completely changed my lifestyle, only really flaring on stressful journeys. I do get bloating often, some constipation (mainly from when I took Codeine for a few years) and prone to heartburn. However, had a nasty flare starting on Sunday night, with constant lower abdominal pain. Saw doctor on Tuesday afternoon and she prescribed some different tablets. I have started on Low Fodmap diet too. It is easing now. Ordered some Alflorex too. Worth a try 😀

Good luck. I go on rice, cooked carrots for a day or 2 if I have a very bad flair up. So individual what works for one doesn’t always work for another. Had a very restrictive diet for a couple of years which helped. I’m very lactose intolerant so have to be careful with medications as they so often have lactose in them. Capsules are less likely I think to have lactose than tablets. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

I don't think I am truly intolerant to any food in small amounts, but going to give Low Fodmap a good try. I love rice and carrots!

Hi MiRiderGirl snap I'm 49 and moved to Pembrokeshire in 2019. Had IBS like you probably midly initially the majority of my life but got worse after having a bit of a difficult birth with my daughter in 2007. I have been medicated since as I suffer with diarrhoea and without loperamide and codeine wouldn't be able to go far as I've always worked full time . I've done fodmap approx 10 years ago and worked out some triggers. But have to ask what is Alflorex? Thank you

Hi. Alflorex is a probiotic that I have seen recommended by a few people on here. I have ordered some, but won't be starting on it until I have had my blood test results from the doctor. Not had any previous benefit from taking probiotics, but willing to try anything. Sorry to hear you have to take medication daily, especially codeine (I was taking that for several years after a nasty hip pain problem as part of my Fibromyalgia, but obviously it is not recommended for longterm use, I got addicted and eventually had to go Cold Turkey - one of the best things I ever did). I had chronic constipation from that, which still affects me several years after stopping taking codeine.
