I suffer from IBS with constipation and regularly experience cramp in my rectum (it feels like I need to pass a motion but can't).
The other night I was so desperate that I contacted NHS 111. The nurse who called me back listened and then suggested that a Salbutamol inhaler might help.
Fortunately I had been prescribed one as I had earlier suffered Proctalgia Fugax and Levator Anni Syndrome as it was though to reduce the length of time I suffered the pain. The directions then were to take one or two puffs up to four times a day.
However the nurse suggested I take four or more together. I tried it and it certainly seemed to dramatically reduce the cramping pain and allowed me to get a good night's sleep.
I thought this might be of interest to fellow sufferers and wondered if anybody else here had previously heard of this remedy?

Good morning. I know how you feel. I have the same problem as you also Fibromyalgia and Emphysema . I had to call 999 because of the pain and couldn’t breathe I have often thought what’s the point of being here but after such a scare I know I had to carry on.
I went to hospital the next day and they confirmed that it was the IBS causing the problem and also to use Salbutamol when the attacks become severe as it will help with the muscle contractions.
I also ask my gastroenterologist he didn’t confirm it would help but said if it helps me then it’s not going to do any harm.
I have to stress the obvious what works for one may no work everyone.
Have a chat with your pharmacist mine it’s absolutely amazing. Far more helpful than Gp then that’s not difficult.
He checks any new medications to see if there is anything I should be aware of for eg . I was on Buscupan and as I also have glaucoma. My eye pressure were extremely high and the eye department at hospital were calling me back every two months. My pharmacist said although the hospital has your notes they often don’t have the time to read them and take them in.
I phoned the hospital explain about Buscupan and told to stop taking it.
Sorry to go on I hope this may help you in some way. Feel free to ask if you need more help.
