Hello, this is the worst case I've heard of and you have my complete sympathy. I pray that the medics can help you better to find an answer to this. Other things that may help you are black pepper and tamarind fruit.

I'm so sorry to hear of your condition - it must be very hard not to feel down. I agree with Stuart24 that Tamarind fruit is worth a try - it's natural and doesn't cause discomfort. I expect you've tried everything but just wondered about 10 minutes tummy massage twice daily (google videos about it) as that can help move everything along. Also deep relaxation breathing and visualising having a comfortable bowel movement. Sorry if this sounds trite - but I imagine you're doing everything else you can and I'm assuming your diet isn't the cause. Take heart - I've known of people get real improvement with this problem by finding something that works a bit and then building on that.

Ask to be referred to a colo-rectal surgeon to see if you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Like you I suffer from slow transit, I've had 2 surgeries up to now and it has made a difference.

I have an appointment with Colorectal Surgeon on 6th november. Just wondered what type of surgery you had? feeling a bit scared of going under the knife. Thank you

Hi, the 1st surgery I had is called Ace Malone surgery, it's not usually done on adults more for kids. The surgery is pretty straight forward but you need to be 100% committed and prepared to take the time to flush your system everyday. I'll explain what I mean, during surgery the surgeon uses your appendix to create a sort of tunnel, one end is connected to your colon and the other end is brought out to your abdomen to create a small stoma. Then once a day you insert a catheter into your stoma and attach it to an irrigation bag, you then use whatever mix best works for you, at the moment I'm using 2 klean prep, 1 picolax and 1 cleeneama mixed with 1.5ltr of warm water. It takes over an hour for it to run in and emptying time varies but I would say that start to finish it takes 3 hours. I had this op in 2015 but as time went on it was taking longer and I had to increase the amount of laxatives I was using so the surgeon put me forward for Sacral Nerve Stimulation surgery in 2017. It works by stimulating your intestines with little electric shocks. You have a device implanted in your lower back and you have a hand held device to control the settings. However, the battery in the implant only lasts 5 years and you need an op every time to change it.

I go back to my surgeon on the 11th of November to get a date for my next op. He wants to do an ileostomy but I don't want it because I don't know if I'll be able to handle it mentally. The reason why he suggested is because my colon is getting even slower and the flush is just washing around my stools, also I told him I am fed up of doing the flush. I have to get up at 4.45am everyday before work and I just can't do it anymore. That's why I said you need to be 100% committed to it. I wasn't given enough info before this op and I truly didn't know that it would be so time-consuming. It's almost impossible to handle as well as work and trying to have some sort of social life or even a normal life. For me everything revolves around the flush which drives me crazy, some days I hate it and resent it.

I don't mean to sound negative and I don't want to put you off because everyone is different and the outcome differs for each patient. I just want to be honest with you and let you know what it is really like. It's a hard decision to make I know, I suppose we have to try and work out the pros and cons and figure out what works best. If you have any questions I'm more than happy to try and help. Hope all goes well on the 6th, let me know how you got on.

Thank you for this response Amanda. Certainly don't fancy the Ace Malone as I am doing anal irrigation every day at the moment which I hate. The stimulation surgery sounds better. I am 72 so 5 years battery life would probably last me out! Good luck for your next appointment. I will let you know what the surgeon offers me on the 6th.

Hi I have similar symptoms as you and have been seeing a bowel consultant for about 10 year now. Numerous tests to get a better idea of what's going on. Ended up with irrigation system at home (tried a few different ones till found the best for me). He also put me on a tablet called prucalopride which does help me a bit and movical sachets. Maybe ask about these tablets and see if they think it may help. The first time I took one I had to run to the loo. I have just had a total hysterectomy and they removed adhesions from my right side and my bowel has been a lot better since but still early days 🤞. I hope you get some answers soon xx

Totally agree with Arlen. It is called Aerobic life Mag 07. I have had problems for years and the magnesium is the best thing to take. No cramps or pain. I have also been prescribed Linaclotide or Linzess which is a medication specifically for Ibs with constipation. It works very well. Speak to your doctor or consultant about it. They should give it to you if you have such a severe problem.
