Lower back pain
Hi vamvakou,
I've been experiencing lower and upper back pain for over 2 months now. I have been diagnosed with ibs after my colonoscopy 6 month's ago. My gp has referred me to a GI specialist for an endoscopy and maybe another colonoscopy because my inflammation was high in my last 2 stool samples. Have you had any tests if you don't mind me asking?
Just waiting on bloodwork results....had endoscopy a year ago...all good.
Yes, I have lower back pain and it does come and go a lot with my IBS. But my back pain started in 1997, and my IBS started 2018...2020. But anything affects my back pain. If I'm tired, lack of sleep, done a bit too much work, caught a cold, etc. So I guess it makes sense that my back aches when my body is hard at work with anything else.
My pain is really low down in the sacro-iliac joint area.
If you're worried about it, it's wise (if you can nowadays !) to ask the doctor. Just in case the back pain is started by something else, or the nerves etc.
yes I do too , when it’s really bad I can hardly walk , you have my sympathy x
Back pain is pretty common with IBS. It's often a result of referred pain, where pain is experienced somewhere else rather than being felt directly.
Can this kind of pain last for months? It's so worrisome!!
Whenever I have a flare I get lower back pain, the worse the do the more severe the pain for me so I dno if the same applies to you?
I’ve also been experiencing middle back pain under my ribs on my right side every now and again, but I’m still recovering from inflammation so I’m just putting it down to that.
Thanks for your response....Yes, the same goes with me....I'm very active and push through the discomfort most of the time....I just hate it!!!
I know its debilitating unless you have it no one knows - I try and eat lots of healthy food not always and then I get it, but bought a smoothie machine and it has helped with the digestive system, and exercise can trigger mine off, so I have no idea how to deal with it like you, I just hope you feel better soon, mine did go eventually but can still return. Maybe have a chat with the doctor if its possible?
My dominant IBS pain symptom has been my lower back, particularly in the early hours of the morning whilst my body is preparing for a BM i.e. when the intestines are at their most active. Alflorex probiotic and Linaclotide (for IBS-C only) have helped me greatly with this pain.
I do have lower back pain sometimes as newly diagnosed with IBS - not sure how to cope with it but I have to sit down until it goes, is yours like that.
I get back pain in the morning and have IBS. Once I have breakfast and go to the loo it goes. I had several scans in 2020 and was physically examined by my GP. He said it was nothing sinister. I was offered Buscopan and Windeze but as am already on a lot of medication I decided to bear the pain as its normally short term. Good luck.
Thanks for your reply....it's so frustrating
Does anyone have the cramping as well? Sometimes I get the cramps along with the dull lower back pain...It's so annoying and makes my anxiety even worse....
