I am so sorry you're suffering like this.

Have you tried narrowing down what foods/drinks. or stress might be triggers for your symptoms?

Have you tried the low FODMAP diet? If you can get your GP or a doctor to refer you to a dietician to guide you through the diet, it would be wiser.

Here's a link to the Monash University Low Fodmap diet page

monashfodmap.com/

And this is more about the diet.

monashfodmap.com/3_step_fod...

It is possible that might help you. But all of the foods might not suit you, and some of the "high Fodmap" foods you might find are fine for you! (that happened to me) as IBS is so different for each of us. But many peoples' symptoms can be relieved by eating low Fodmap foods until the gut gets time to settle, and more foods can be re-introduced.

You could also ask your doctor about whether your symptoms could be bile acid malabsorption? If so, a medication can definitely help that very quickly.

Remember, you are not alone and we all understand here.

I agree he probably has bile acid malabsorption

Hi Crazychar2022, Those symptoms sound like Diverticulitis. Please ask your gp to refer you or get you diagnosed. You also need to be referred to The Pain clinic who will definitely give you a probable diagnosis (they were always correct in my case and wrote to my gp about it). Ask your gp about Peppermint Oil Capsules to calm your stomach, Macrogol powder laxatives and if you need to drink Peppermint tea to further relax your tummy. Also speak to your gp about Lanzaprazole, Omerprazole or Esomerprazole to calm the acid in your tummy. I hope you get the help you need. Please call an ambulance each and every time this happens to you

Please let us know how you get on. All the best 😍

Vomiting isn't a normal sign of IBS. Other people have mentioned gastroparesis in terms of vomiting. Constant diarrhea can be bile acid malabsorption. There is a test for it. Maybe ask your doctor about tests for those 2 things.

If it is definitely IBS pain only, you may be suffering from visceral hypersensitivity (functional abdominal pain) - there is info about it here:

iffgd.org/lower-gi-disorder...

It is where the brain interprets the normal activity of the bowel as pain - this is due to a wearing down of neurons in pain control centres of the brain which can be caused by PTSD, difficult childhoods, extreme stressful events etc. The first line treatment is nerve pain agents such as low dose amitriptyline. There is a theory that being on something like amitriptyline for 6-12 months can help the pain control centre neurons to regenerate. Note that amitriptyline can cause constipation, but this can be helpful in people who are diarrhea dominant. Unfortunately, I couldn't tolerate these. Linaclotide (for IBS-C only) & Alflorex probiotic have helped me with this intestinal pain.

Alflorex can help if your IBS is caused by a gut bacterial imbalance which is the case for many people with IBS. A dominance of bad bugs in the gut can oversensitise nerves in the gut causing pain. Alflorex has been scientifically studied for IBS.

Thank you for that very informative article. That is exactly what I have after having a mild bout of food poisoning about 7 years ago. It has gradually got worse until I am eating a very limited diet. I can understand the pain bit but I cannot understand why it causes the running to the loo if anything new I eat causes problems. I am trialing two probiotics at the moment. One is from Optibac and the strains are supposed to help IBS (Everyday extra) and Saccharomyces boulardii which I am adding in gradually (also from Optibac). Hopefully, they will help but I must more hypnotherapy and meditation to dampen down the pain. Thanks again.

try buscopan … for me it’s a life saver .. I take 20 mins before I eat .. when it’s really bad I take it a few times a day , it’s a muscle relaxer specially for IBS

if the pain is constant it could be pelvic floor dysfunction

Have a look

I am in the same boat here but mostly constipation. I live on enemas daily now. Tried pelvic floor therapy and biofeedback to fix with no luck. I am down to very few foods I can tolerate which is dwindling. My gi doctor just says everything is ibs and there is nothing else he can do. I've never heard of the bile acid malabsorption test. Would make sense that I get that due to no gallbladder. I've cut out all trigger foods and now even my safe foods are causing a problem. I completely agree with visceral hypersensitivity for myself. I knew it was the reason just didnt have a name for it. I have fibromyalgia too which fits in with that. All I can say is heating pads and a shiatsu neck massager used on my abdomen have helped alot. I am also suffering from so many other conditions and have had gi issues since I was a child. Along with interstitial cystitis. I get esophagitis and gastritis at the drop of a hat too. I'm thinking of going to rush hospital in chicago because they have a new gi motility program. I want to see if they can help. I know how debilitating this is and I am suffering so much still searching for answers at 37. I wish you the best!
