I usually go #2 in the morning about 30 minutes to an hour after getting up. Almost all the time I get the usual urge to go whether my bowel movement is loose, normal or on rarer occasions, a bit constipated. But the urge is still there.
But sometimes there is nothing, no sensation or natural urge. That can happen more often when I have a looser bm.But that happened the last 3 days and my bowel movements were okay and fairly normal, after a sudden single flare of the D on Monday morning.
When there is no urge, I also get other symptoms like heart palpitations and a numbness that comes over the left side of my abdomen very low down, into the groin left side, and down my thigh to my knee. Those symptoms are brief and pass after a bm.
This morning that happened and I was 2 or 3 hours before I could go to the loo. I had a coffee and went for a 1/2mile walk to try to get my gut to respond. But there was no constipation when I went eventually.
But my main query is I am curious about why there is an absence of the natural urge to have a bm sometimes.Does anyone else get that sensation?

HiNot feeling the urge is ok and your bowels will be ready when you feel the urge. Its good there is in no d and c when you did open them.
with me the trigger is breakfast. At night your body reacts to shutting down and sleeping by not triggering the automatic bodily action. When you get up if you don’t eat-to tell your body to start your digestive system going-it’s likely not to automatically restart. If you eat something the whole digestive system starts working- that’s what I’ve experienced anyway.
Yes, I can understand that. The gut needs waking up and you have to eat first. But with me, I've never been like that. My normal habit has always been I need a bm after my coffee or tea in the morning. I'd usually have my breakfast after.
And I would naturally feel an urge to go. Even since IBS it's been the same. But the last few days I did have to eat first and take a short walk before there was even a trace of feeling the gut start to move.
Hi I thought I’d reply, because I have the same problem, ( but I have had this problem many years ) my IBS, I class as C, but with not the usual constipation that most experience. My problem is some high FODMAP foods cause my tummy to stop working, but because I love all food, I have this problem regularly. I sit here now after a couple of days not having the urge to go, feeling very bloated. Your reason for the problem may not be the same as mine, but I thought I’d mention it. Hope you find you get back to normal soon 😊
Thanks bigbunbun3. I am not so bad now, and that sensation stopped the last 2 days. I don't know if it was related to pelvic nerves or something, because I ached a lot from doing some physical job a few days ago but that's a bit easier now. Though my gut is going through a generally "not too great phase" the past week or so.
