I went to the GP last week after 4 weeks of anal itching and pain. Tried all OTC creams but nothing worked, ordered Proctosedyl ointment online (I got this 13 years ago after having a fissure post labour) but it was out of stock so got scheriproct instead which didn’t do much. GP gave me Diltiazem ointment which sends me through the roof and I have to wash it off. Please can someone help with any other treatment!!!! I feel like I’m going insane with this 😢

Help! Going mad with anal itching & pain
I know this sounds awful but have you got thread worms these can make you itch like mad.
When you next poo have a look in the toilet they look like bits of cotton wriggling around.
I will check next time but I haven’t seen anything lately. It’s like a stabbing pain as well, it’s horrendous and I’m in tears every time
Think about seeing a colo rectal surgeon. They would know how to investigate and solve the problem. If you are in the UK and it is really bad I would go privately.
I have had to go private after waiting nearly a year for a appointment with a colectral surgeon, I have fissures and other painful symptoms, the waiting list is months long in the NHS, it is totally disgusting, I was referred by three different doctors they come up with the excuse we never got the referrals, it will take all my savings but hey within a week I have an appointment with a colorectal surgeon, my symptoms are getting worse by the week I am desperate as I am in excruciating pain every day.
Good thought!
The way laboratories used to check for thread worms and their eggs was to stick a piece of sellotape over the anus for a moment, first thing in the morning before a bowel movement. Look at this, preferably with a magnifying glass (unless you've got a microscope!) to see the thread-like worms.
Your GP should be able to get the test done properly for you.
Mykids have had this twice, at the end of the summer, and I only once saw the worms. Worming treatment is v easy to buy and to do. Would recommend.
sirrelevant ro crash this thread. Bit I've had itching for 7 years and the last yr has been itchy hel. Day amd night. Tried all creams, parasite test, colonoscopy 3 yrs ago, herbalist now doing a gut microbiome test. Could itching be anal cancer or are drs missing something. Oh also seeing a dermatologist but she's useless.
Scheriproct got rid of my piles but made me really itchy and sore. Luckily soaking a cotton wool pad in cooled boiled water and leaving it on for 5 mins morning and night helped me with that aspect of it
Funny you say that as last night I used a cool face cloth before bed and it’s the first night in 5 weeks I haven’t been woken at 3am with itching!
I use Germoloids it's very good to ease pain and itching.
I have the same problem. Not so much the pain but the itching can drive you insane. I agree with the Germiloid cream. I have also that found Vagisil cream for bladder and weakness care is really good. I get it off Amazon. It's surprising soothing and really helps with sleep.
I found some Hydro cortisone cream does the trick, you can buy it at any chemist, that really helps
The correct procedure here is to use a Rectal Dilator with Lignocaine Gel which you can get from the DR only or from st Mark's hospital after an appointment. You may have a go private to speed things up thou
Have you tried vic oitment it really cools the itching my mum use to use it years ago so im sure its a old wives tale but it does help..x
My heart breaks for you it is just soul destroying especially when Nothing seems to work🥺

Good Luck
So nice to be able to help one another x
I didnt realise you cldnt attach a piccy sorry
in The IS we have something called analcreme, it’s a lidocaine type cream. For me I use just Vaseline and it tends to help heal. Try soaking the cloth or pads to wipe and soak with in witch hazel. This gives a lot of comfort. You could also get it in a a spray bottle or put in one and spray Avery time you have any bathroom trip, just for the soothing and cooling effect. Some witch hazel can be found with chamomile that might be helpful also. Good luck, sorry I know how bad this can be.
I agree hydrocortisone cream, antibiotic cream, heck I would even try lidocaine cream on it( should be fine cuz that’s what is in the analcreme). Find what works for you. None of these have given me a burning effect.
Can't add much to previous replys but I find that using aqueous cream to wash with helps to lessen itching and soreness a bit
Well I didnt try near as many medications as you did but I was having problems with piles and maddening itching. Tried 1/2 a dozen things, went to the specialist who banded my piles (which I found really unpleasant) and got told that i have a rectal prolapse. Not as in wholesale but as in slipping a bit more each week. I was probably getting itching and whatever because of mucous which is a natural lining to the butt. Also have IBS so frequent stool and excess mucus contributing.
Tried more things especially washing after going to the loo. One day I am surfing the net and find an article on circulation, varicose veins etc and it mentions, weakened vein walls and piles I think. Then it listed things that can help, many of which I knew about.
One I didnt was a supplement called Rutin. It's made from sunflower seeds (Shells I think) and its a very cheap supplement and a one medium sized pill a day. Full disclosure, it gives me indigestion (acid) so I have to take it in the middle of my dinner and then no probs.
I went to the specialist about 4 years ago and found Rutin a few months later. Now, I have no problem with external piles (suspect the prolapse hasnt got worse) and best of all after probably less than a week after taking it, no darn itching. In fact, if I skip the Rutin for about a week the first reminder to take it to get, is mild itching.
But do your own research first, I didnt look into Rutin too much and now dont care to as freedom from the Itch is all that matters to me!
