I have this, and find every 6 months or so I have to get a stronger steroid cream! I'm currently on eumovate and it seems to be doing the job, as well as wearing socks to bed!

Have you found any relief in the past year?

kate24601 profile image
kate24601 in reply toBlackCat16

I got diagnosed with lichen sclerosis and got clobetasol which worked wonders, am currently pregnant which has made it coke back with a vengeance which makes me think its hormone related. I've just had to smother myself in sudocrem when I can't use clobetasol but it really has been a miracle cream, didn't have a flare up for 5 months before getting pregnant x

Have you tried Preparation H wipes? They seem to do more than the cream for itching/ pain.

Have you had a comprehensive stool test? Could b parasites which I have. They can't b seen with naked eye.

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toauntyjean

I havent. I had a test back in sept was normal. Then went to a natropath said to take grapeseed tablets. Now i think i might see a funtional dr.

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toauntyjean

in back here after a yr now is still here and worse. How did you know it was parasites what helped you pls

auntyjean profile image
auntyjean in reply toContra21

I paid for a comprehensive stool test which showed parasites. Nothing helped so I asked to be referred to the hospital for tropical diseases. It's a long story but on the basis of a blood test I was given 6 pills to take over 3 days. The bad pain and sickness went. Then I built up my good gut bacteria and I am now well and can eat everything. I did not suffer with itching but terrible pain and sickness. I lost 2 stone which is now gradually going back. Hope you get some help soon.

Contra21 in reply toauntyjean

Ok I'll get a stooll test 1st

If it’s Candida it will be killed by taking fluconazole. Get it from your GP or order on line. It could of course be piles in which case a cream from the chemist will help.

Cream for piles would be an idea as it is meant to reduce itching or try vagisil cream.

I believe the 2 main reasons for anal itching are pin worm or some other parasite infection. Or food sensitivity. Pork seems to be a common one for anal itching.

Contra21 profile image

Never eat pork and have taken tablets for worms

Yes more at night and in the morning then gets a bit better during the day. I’ve tried creams for piles, doctor could not see any but thinks that is what it is. I’m going to try medicine for worms this week just in case. I can’t believe itching from piles could last so long when I’ve been using the cream!

Mines been 3. I even had a colonoscopy. Im so upset i cant handle The itch .

Fluffington profile image
Fluffington in reply toContra21

Did the colonoscopy come back nothing found? I left this for ages as I was too embarrassed to go to doctor. When I went she just prescribed the same cream I was using anyway and could not find anything. It’s just temporary relief if at all. I’m hoping the worming tablets work! 😭

BlackCat16 in reply toFluffington

Fluffington, do you still have the itch?!

Fluffington profile image
Fluffington in reply toBlackCat16

I still get it but it has definitely improved. I use those hypoallergenic moist toilet tissue wipes now every day. I think internal piles are definitely the culprit caused by going too often due to anxiety. 😭 Are you still suffering? 💚

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toFluffington

The worming tablets work?

Fluffington profile image
Fluffington in reply toContra21

No they did nothing! What worked for me was to use the moist wipes after going to the loo, then dry toilet paper, stop using soap to wash there (I use shower gel now) and stop using all the creams for piles, I think they made it worse!

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16

I’ve been suffering for 9 years now. It comes and goes in waves..I feel like it is the worst when I eat or drink foods or anything high in histamines..I took a antihistamine for awhile and it seemed to go away, but i think i started to get resistant..anyway, try maybe taking a antihistamine. Its worth looking into! I’m gonna get my histamine levels tested when all this coronavirus stuff slows down because I have other symptoms of high levels like essential tremor and ibsd. Good luck with everything, I know the itch is unbearable..but try not to scratch so you can break the cycle.. :/

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBlackCat16

In getting a 3 day parasite test, did you do test for those?

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16

I’ve had two stool tests and a pinworm test, I’ve tried steroid creams, over the counter creams, prescription creams, I also had a surgery where they did Botox injections for anal fissures because they thought that was the cause. I’ve seen 4 specialists and they seem to all just tell me the same thing..And we go round and round trying things with no results :/ first, go through the list of shit that could be the cause of anal itch....perfume soaps, chocolate, dairy, blah blah blah..I guess it could be the issue for some, but I tried quitting everything on the list..I do find that it is more itchy when it is moist, so keeping a folded piece of toilet paper in between your cheeks really helps. I live in Texas and it get veryyy hot here in the summers :(

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBlackCat16

My story just like yours!! I to do the toilet pair lol

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16 in reply toContra21

Oh and btw I am a 28 yo female :) anything that you’ve tried that seems to work? I’ve noticed tomatoes really make things worse.. alcohol def does for me as well. Like I said, I tried an antihistamine that my pcp prescribed for about a year and it really helped, just think my body started getting used to it. I may try again!

How are you?!! I recently ordered a food intolerance at home blood test from everlywell. I’m wondering if my gut issues are linked to my itching..I’ll let you guys know how it goes if I can find some relief!! I’ve been itchy on and off for the past few weeks..just annoying more than anything :/

I got the results back with antibodies found against wheat, rye, egg yolks, almonds...I cut out all gluten since and still having itching. Last night was the worst!! I had to wipe this morning softly with wet tissue paper :( yes sometimes I’ll have bleeding but it will be from cuts from scratching/BMs etc.

Contra21 profile image

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBlackCat16

Ok so im fed up. 5 years of this. How do we know if its serious? Example seeing a colorectal surgeon? Itching cant be normal for this long? I have a little tiny bump i can feel like a pimple in rectum and think what is it? What tests are enough? I need answers im tired of beimg told ota not parasites bit feel like something is wriggling, then oh try this cream, then 2018 had a colonoscopy and now dr is like maybe the dr missed something wtf. Im so fed up and want answers

BlackCat16 profile image

High Histamines foods that are on the common list of items that can cause anal itching: chocolate, coffee, tomatoes, cheese.. :( all my favs

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16

I feel like the anti histamine let’s me consume those things without having such the terrible itch..I’m sure if I cut the foods down it would be a lot better. I have awful self control tho

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBlackCat16

Ok its 4am.and it always feel like somethinga wriggling in there and I have to stratch it's like the itch get worse when scratch but feels so good. I'm starting to worry. No creams are working and if they do it temporary. How many drs do I see I feel like no one knows what to do!!

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16 in reply toContra21

Yes same!! Wiggling feeling inside but could it be the muscles? I don’t know what to do anymore :( I thought maybe it was related to my cycle and tracked it for a few months, but it doesn’t seem like it gets better or worse throughout the month no matter what. Keeping toilet paper wadded up helps me during the day at work so it is dry. I’m going to see an obgyn to see if it could be pelvic floor related? What specialty doctors have you seen? I’ll keep you posted!

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBlackCat16

I’ve seen countless go’s, rectal exams, colonoscopy, natroupath took grape seed tablets and nothing. How about you?

Pte82 profile image
Pte82 in reply toContra21

Contra21 have you tried Epsom salts in the tub or a sitz bath? In the tub use three cups of Epsom salts with two tablespoons of baking soda in a warm water at a depth of four inches and remain for 15 to 20 minutes. In the sitz bath use one cup of Epsom salts and a teaspoon of baking soda for 15 to 20 minutes. Consult your health care professional before using non prescribed elements.

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toPte82

Don't think that will stop 5n years of itching but Thankyou

Contra21 profile image
Contra21

I think the tomatoes do it for me, I went to the dr and he thinks the itching is because my bowels aren’t regular..

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16

I’m going to try on the antihistamine again, it just seems like nothing works! Giving up gluten did not help :( I re-read all of the posts and see that giving up the acidic foods gave me a little relief..maybe I’ll try again. I hate this constant cycle of trying to figure it out on my own since doctors are clueless. Just another body to see for the next 15-20 min it feels like..no one seems to care or just say it’s hemorrhoids..like for real? That’s what you say when I tell you I’ve tried everything, creams, surgeries, and still have a itch after 10 years?!!! I like that others are starting to comment, I am curious to see if anyone has had any relief. I haven’t tried sitz baths but I feel like this will only curb the itching for a short time..I want to know what’s wrong big picture!!

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBlackCat16

I agree with it all. Have you seen a functional dr? Had a colonoscopy? Rectal exam?

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16 in reply toContra21

I’ve seen 3 colorectal surgeons, a gastrointerologist, a dermatologist, and hopefully soon an OB/Gyn..I have had a colonoscopy and just said they saw a few fissures but nothing else..

Have never done that sounds horrible, what happened after the 15 years?

Boo0102 profile image
Boo0102

This may be a stupid question as I only skimmed the replies, but do you use toilet paper to clean after a BM? Reason I’m asking is I do have hemorrhoids but experienced intense itching for years. Finally tried water after BMs and over a few months, the hemorrhoids died down and the itching stopped. It has been amazing as I don’t need the rx creams, or essential oil concoctions or anything else.

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBoo0102

You shower after every bm? I have never done water....

Boo0102 profile image
Boo0102

Haha noooo. No shower multiple times a day. I knew that the TP route was doing more harm than good. I couldn’t afford a washlet/bidet seat so I bought a little travel bottle made for that off Amazon. That was maybe 3 years ago. We recently had to have a bathroom remodeled and I asked for an electrical outlet installed by the toilet. As soon as we can swing it, we’re buying a washlet. I can’t begin to tell you how much everything improved. I almost never have any problems with my hemorrhoids, itching, etc.

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBoo0102

We’re you itching every day?

Boo0102 profile image
Boo0102

Yes. In other circles this would be TMI, but we’re beyond that right? So, the itching was every day, some worse than others. Hemorrhoids were bleeding, there was an anal fissure as well....I beg you to give it a try. I think the bottle I got was like $10. It comes with a discrete travel bag. My husband and I were talking and he had come across someone giving this example: “If you were walking across the yard and slipped and fell into a pile of dog poo, would you wipe it off and call it good?”

Here’s the one I have.

amazon.com/Brondell-GS-70-P...

Also, we stopped buying and using bum wipes. Instead, I bought a much more gentler to us and kinder to the sewer systems spray - also on Amazon. It’s called “Pristine”. You just spray it on toilet paper - it doesn’t make it fall apart. Highly recommend. My husband is a convert to the bidet bottle, but can’t get my kids to switch. So we still use the spray.

The bottle takes some getting used to. I think I use it slightly differently than my hubby. And no, the nozzle should never touch you - just the water.

Guess the bottom line is you really don’t have anything to lose except a few dollars, and the potential gain of an itch-free bum. (If it truly isn’t parasites or some other medically contributing factor.)

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBoo0102

I had a stool test and a 3 day parasite test and all clear, if feels like I have them due to the intense itch then sore rectum but it just never stops. Like deep internal itch and when I scratch oh boy does it feel good

Contra21 profile image
Contra21 in reply toBoo0102

How long have you had the itching for, I keep thinking drs have missed something

Boo0102 profile image
Boo0102

I had it for probably about 4 years. Started sort of small and then just kept getting worse. It would wake/keep me up at night. Sometimes I literally couldn’t sit still. I would eventually break down and rummage around down there which would ultimately make the situation worse. The skin/tissue was just not able to heal, therefore it was classic pruritis ani. I tried internal creams, external creams, coconut oil, essential oils, sitz baths, etc. , but nothing gave lasting relief. Then I switched all toileting to water only (TP is still used to blot dry - and to check for complete cleanliness). That plus my diet changes (I had already switched to gluten free, dairy free, soy and corn free for a couple of years), did the trick. Sometimes it can be the simplest solution. There’s no way I would go back to using just TP. Just saying.

Contra21 profile image
Contra21

I tried the whole gluten free but diet didn’t seem to work. Even went raw for a yr

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16

Contra21 I just got home from the OB/GYN! I just got a referral to see a pelvic floor specialist. The doctor thinks that it will definitely help me! I explained having the itchiness and spasms during my period, she put down possible lavator ani syndrome

Contra21 profile image

Wow. I saw a functional design cost me 400 and 800 is testing. Will have results sept!

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16

So I thought I would post an update: I went to a doctor who basically told me that I just have severe dry skin and it’s leading to tearing (along with scratching and using toilet paper) so I have stopped using toilet paper which has helped..I’m using unscented baby wipes..and didn’t really like the waterbased aloe stuff she gave me because it didn’t feel hydrating but she did suggest using coconut oil so I’ve been using that. It seems to be helping, I just have to use it at least once a day..the doctor specializes in pelvic floor physical therapy and when she got down in there, said that my genital area was covered in little tears from how dry my skin was!! I had no idea!! So maybe give it a go?

BlackCat16 profile image
BlackCat16 in reply toBlackCat16

But I may follow up with a dermatologist if my skin is actually that dry because I don’t think that is normal, right? Lol 😝

Contra21 profile image

I don’t think mines dry as the itching is inside to itch also and as soon as I scratch it’s like wildfire. Every damn day. Six years.
