Microbiome test

Have recently consulted a nutritionist who recommended I take a microbiome stool test. Results were interesting as it showed high level of Zonulin which I am told affects the barrier gut lining & is common in IBS C. Have been recommended certain probiotics to take. Had IBS for many years & wanted advice on diet & gut activity. Has anyone else had success with probiotics?

That test would be interesting for me! I’ve not taken probiotics yet, but plan too soon. It would be nice to know which bacteria I have and need. I also have IBS-C and trying to find the right probiotics is apparently the hard part, due to each being so individualized.

Did you have to order the test on-line or what? My Doc said they don’t order them at my Gp or GI. Thanks! 😁

I do hope they work wonders for you, and if you want to share which ones they recommended I’m listening lol.

Best wishes

My nutrionist used Invivo. You cant order it yourself online they only deal with healthcare professionals plus you need an expert to explain the test results . The test included calprotectin level, FIT as well as negative & positive bacteria🙈. Its not covered under the NHS. Will let you know how I get on.

thank you! I hope it goes well! I will also ask my nutritionist but I’m not very hopeful as it seems to be 2 different specialties there and here in US— 🤣🤣. Just kidding, I think it’s the same but here they don’t seem to order or do any test explanation at all but I will definately check into it! Thanks for the info and reply, good luck!

Youve been well and truly had by a money-making scheme. The more supposed information you know about you gut microbiome the more duped you are into buying uneccesary expensive products. Its a growing industry i want no part of!

Hi I have IBS C and have been trying Bimuno powder. It has made a big difference but it has taken a while. Also reduced carbohydrates which slow my gut down.

The probiotic that worked best for me is Alflorex probiotic which has been scientifically studied for IBS.

Hi Glitterpants, I used Chuckling Goat for my microbiome test. Am currently taking kefir, collagen and their own probiotics mix. Has worked wonders for me. I had IBS C. Started kefir before I took test and saw improvements soon after. Since taking all 3 my constipation has disappeared, I am able to eat wheat again although at moment not having a whole dish of pasta (yet). Haven’t looked back. I feel great. My test showed low levels of butyrate. Chuckling goat were fantastic. I had a personal consultation by phone which explained my results. Food advice given too. Happy Bunny 😁

Chuckling Goat kefir has been wonderful in treating my IBS-D. I am not 100% and maybe I never will be, but I feel the IBS is now in the background not the foreground of my life. Great online support too with their nutritionists.

I too, have been using Alflorex for over 18 months now and would not be without it. I know it is expensive but my gut has been so much better. I noticed a difference within a couple of months of taking it. Any naysayers who argue that probiotics are not worth the money are well within their rights to say so, as far as I’m concerned they have made a big difference to me personally. 🙂

I took them for a month once diagnosed. They really helped reduce my bloating, to the point where I felt really hungry for the first few days. The jury is out, however, as to whether they are beneficial in the long run. For information, mine were from Holland & Barratt.
