Last week I purchased a great book. It’s called Take Control of Your IBS by Prof Peter Whorwell. He is one of the UK’s leading IBS gastroenterologists and sees the patients the rest of the NHS can’t do anything with. I found the book to be so easy to read and written in layman’s terms. As someone who has suffered with gut issues for 18 years it’s not groundbreaking but has made me feel less alone with this awful thing and I am planning on re-reading it and implementing the strategies recommended. One of the things he recommends is gut related hypnotherapy. I have found a local hypnotherapist who is trained by Prof Whorwell and although expensive I’m willing to give it a try.
I would like to recommend a great book 🙂 - IBS Network
I would like to recommend a great book 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation. I have heard him on the radio a few times and he always seems to talk sense. A gastroenterologist also suggested I try hypnotherapy and I have been doing this for a couple of months - my therapist was a gp for 20 years so knows about the medical side too. I can`t say it has improved my ibs but it is helping with my general stress levels and made me feel more able to cope. It is also very nice to go and see someone who has time to talk rather than feeling you are being rushed in and out by most doctors
That’s how I feel I just want to go to someone who has time to listen to me and not always clock watching because they’ve got a backlog of patients to see. The NHS are great in so many ways but unfortunately, they just haven’t got time for us folk with chronic conditions ☹️
Oh I'm really envious, I would love to get to see him, please let us know how it went. Good luck 😄
Hi Chocoholicww, I am pleased you have an appointment with prof Whorwell 🤗 Please could you tell me if he is based in Manchester?
Hi Chocoholicww, thank you for your reply. I ordered his book yesterday as Rustydog recommend it 😃
