Bananas hate me!

What is it about bananas that doesn't work for me? It can't be fructose, because I can eat peeled grapes okay with no bad effects., and other things (even high Fodmap such as honey) I'm fine on those foods.

It can't be fibre, because I only tried half a banana a day and I get more fibre from my 3 portions of veggies with dinner.

I am not crazy about bananas and can happily not eat them. I only tried again because I wanted to eat more fruit if possible, and vary my peeled grapes which have become a routine with breakfast. I just wanted to get a bit more potassium, and try to extend my diet slightly. I get the green-ish ones.

I kind of feel an odd guilt about my lack of fruit. I used to eat 2 portions of fruit a day for breakfast 2 - 3 years ago.

But now, the less fruit I eat I have to admit, the better I can feel.

I always have to be careful with fruit. But bananas hate me. They are in the emergency BRAT diet (for acute diarrhea) and are low Fodmap for goodness sake, so what's going on?

I'm the same, I can't eat them now either. I don't know why! I wonder if they are too heavy!

They don't like me either, used to love a banana sandwich but stopped about 20 odd years ago because of gas and bloating apparently they can cause these symptoms if you have GI issues.

What I don't 'get' is why they are on the low Fodmap diet list when they obviously hate other people too!

Sod it. I am going to try eating peeled pears next just because I think I can. I don't even care at this stage if they are high Fodmap or not. This is like being on the 'naughty step' all of the time! 🙄

I don't do the Fodmap diet, I think it's a load of rubbish, well for me it is. I had IBS 20 years before the Fodmap diet was introduced, so by that time I had learned what was the right things for me to eat but even then it has changed a lot over the years. I guess it is what is actually causing the problem for you at that particular time.

You're not alone. I stoppef eating bananas a long time ago as minutes after eating I look pregnant. Linleys reply was interesting wheni she said if you have GI problems....

It's got me thinking.

Bacon doesn't like me either and has the same effect.

I haven't eaten bananas for some time for the same reason. They used to give me heartburn. The only thing I can think of is that they are highly alkaline, and I wasn't sure if my stomach started producing extra acid, like a rebound effect against the alkalinity of the fruit.

Me neither. I can't even swallow them because my throat feels like it is closing up. Fresh pineapple is even worse. I think the enzymes attack my throat. I eat very little fruit, although I like raspberries and cherries in season. I eat lots of veg though. Lots of sugar in fruit.
