I don’t really know what I’m looking for I have a list off her but not sure what to look for on ingredients , I have a trek protein bar daily for example , any ideas ?thanks
high cholesterol!: apparently I need to lower my... - IBS Network
high cholesterol!

A herbal remedy to lower cholesterol is Lime Flower tea but of course do check that would be okay for you if you are interested. Another is garlic (raw) but that's usually our worst enemy with IBS!
Lime flower tea is mild and pleasant tasting. I have drunk it many times myself, though not while I've had IBS. so I don't know if it would suit you or not.
It can go under the names of 'Linden flowers' , 'Lime blossom' or 'Lindenblumen' too.
I am no clinician but I will tell you what I did. GP said he wanted me to go on statins, I said no and I won't go on a diet as I am under weight.. He agreed to give me 3 months to lower my cholesterol if I didn't get it under control on statins I go. So I changed my diet. Out went the crisps, red meat in came avocados, walnuts(I have diverticular), more chicken and salmon combined with natural sterols, and flora proactive (can be expensive) GP said well done I did it😁
Thankyou I certainly don’t need to lose weight my retest is in six months
How can I survive without crisps lol with df gf I don’t have much fun lol , I’ve just swapped normal flora for flora light , I don’t have much pastry being gf , packet ham and chicken in sandwiches? Don’t fry food , don’t have cream or sauces on pasta
I do have some lacto free grated cheese and flora on pasta , am I looking for low fat things now as well ? There is so little I eat on my free diet anyway , I couldn’t get much more miserable !
I don’t eat red meat , are freezer dinners out as we call them? I hate cooking and don’t have time , so sometimes it’s oven chips and gf fish fingers ; my list says oven chips twice a week is ok .
I have a ninja I do t like avocado and nuts is a no for my diverticula and a no on my cholesterol list ! I tried popcorn and it made me 🤢
I had a cholesterol warning too and suffer from diverticulitis … managed to turn it round by eating gluten-free porridge ( made with water) every morning. With berries and a spoonful of honey it tastes good and it’s a knuwn cholesterol lowering food.
I am in the same boat and am trying to reduce my cholesterol. I am taking plant sterol capsules from 'peak supps". This ingredient is in the cholesterol lowering spread from the supermarket and works out much cheaper too.
Like you, not overweight as i have no appetite most of the time due to nausea and other ibs symptoms so i tend to eat easy cook food and chocolate.
I have gone over to a lot more veggie meals and intend to start with porridge soon.
I have to be retested next month. Help!
I dont have any problems with the plant stetols i am using. I am hoping to find an appetite just now as i am about to go out for lunch with a man from a dating site who i have not met before. But as i told my daughter, he is 80 so i reckon i could run faster than him if i had to and i am 79!
Try porridge with oat granola ( with no palm oil in it) and fruit, sunflower seeds or alike for snacks, green bananas, red fruits and vegetables, lean meats, oily fish. Try and take out of you diet saturated fats and trans fats and do moderate excercise
thanks ! I can’t have seeds and have to find gf df foods , I’m a cleaner so active all day and walk a dog twice a day too
p.s. my reading was 7.5.
I do excercise. Hardly eat meat, eat ground linseeds on cereal daily with blueberries and kiwi. Eat spinach everyday along with mixed leaf salad.
I eat tinned sardines or mackerel most weeks. I know my diet is good up until the evenings. Perhaps i should just go to bed after tea time. Annoying, because thats when my appetite returns or maybe its mouth hunger.
My blood pressure isnt too good either so i am waiting for a 24hr monitor to get a true result.
change your diet …. Many out there to choose from Dr Weil / Dr Furman check them out …. Thank f your serious your junk food days are over !!
I hardly eat any junk as df and gf
I am enjoying sourdough lately. I feel a little less guilty when i make toast and have jam on it.
I'm in the same boat! Tried statins but my goodness! Bad enough having to go to the loo urgently with IBSD . Statins gave me explosive sudden diarrhoea! Going out is now my worse nightmare! Unfortunately trying to see my GP is impossible. Decided to stop taking statins... they may help not having a heart attack or stroke but ...

Do your own research on what cholesterol levels really should be (when they are NOT trying to sell statins!). For older women like me it's actually dangerous to go much below 200, total. I eat a lot of eggs, red meat and other meats, organic when I can afford it, and add fats and oils to my foods. This is the only way to do low-carb without the danger of high protein. So I, and a million other low-carbers, can tell you that mainstream "truth" about what causes high cholesterol is ... not true at all.
No statins for me; I know what havoc they wreak on the body!
When you eat low-fat and avoid ingesting cholesterol, it seems your body manufactures it in desperation. It is a necessary building block for cells! So do some research, including on the roles played by carbohydrates and circulating insulin levels (high generally = high triglycerides = insulin resistance). Good luck with this!
below 200 ? I’m 5.9?
I speak only US English. Sorry. However I found this handy chart for conversion. We speak mg/dL here (except we don't know what a dL is, we just accept it ;)). You, I think, speak mmol/L. I am just below 200 (with massive egg and cheese and meat and fat ingestion). This help?
Also age matters. I am old as the hills (late 60s). If you are a spring chicken then the numbers of ideal might be a bit lower for you. Checked and mine would be 5 by your numbers. Do you eat enough cholesterol-containing foods, I wonder? Also are your triglycerides high?
