Hi all I've been diagnosed with IBS twenty years ago after having a few tests. Does anyone else have problems with passing mucus with stools and also on it's own. I've been off dairy products for a while and its stopped my diarrhoea but still get mucus. Sometimes its clear other times its thicker and yellow in colour. Cheers

Mucus
Might want to try searching here for that. I know that's come up multiple times in the past.
Passing mucus is common with IBS. Sometimes you produce more mucus when you are constipated, since it helps to ease out stools. If you have now gone from IBS-D to IBS-C increasing fibre might help. Or the colon has been irritated from long bouts of IBS-D and this might settle. You might want to mention it to a doctor, if you haven't had the elimination tests for a while and have them redone just to re-confirm it's all still due to IBS.
Hi davefoxie. This sounds like my post on and off over the last year half here. My symptoms started out the blue but i was told i had ibs since i was young. I am 51 now and this starter the mucus discharge 2 years ago. I felt like i needed to pass wind one day and it eas yellow mucus. Then this happens every week since then. It lasts for 24hrs 48hrs then clears up when i pass stool till next episode. Sometimes the mucus is with stool or mostly its passing it with gas.
Ive had bloods done and clear. Abdomen ultrasound clear. Then 8 weeks ago i finally got a colonoscopy and it was clear with nothing found. A relief. Then i had a ct with contrast and they found a focal constriction but the head consultant said there was no need to do another colonoscopy as this happens a lot with the ct scans. They said i had a ibs contraction when it was done so i was signed off but my problem persists and i have to live with this horrible condition. I now am dairy gluten free but it still comes back. I was told to wear a nappy which really put me into depression. The doctor then gave me loperamide which controls my diarrhea thankfully but when my mucus happens the loperamide wont stop that. Look forward to your reply.
