Constipated with hard stool and mucus

I stopped having BMs naturally a couple of months ago and have added a lot of fiber to my diet and drink plenty of water, which I drink daily always. I've taken a lot of different things trying to move me without much help. I'm only passing small hard pieces of stool with a lot of mucus, both in stool and alone. I'm new to this site and wonder if anybody has any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi there I suffer the same I’ve found that when your severely constipated adding more fibre will make it worse regardless of how much water you drink . I use movicol/laxido / cosmocol sachets all the same thing 1 sachet a day with 1 scoop optifibre which is guargum with prebiotic , you may need to take more movicol at first to clear you out then a maintenance dose every day , high fibre diet with ibs c just doesn’t work for me just expands dries out and gets stuck x

Thank you and yes everything does make it worse. I'm not familiar with all of those products but I'll look them up.

Hi Pansy, does cosmocol give you gas and diarrhoea? I've been prescribed it but am reluctant to take it in case it causes the opposite

Hi there if you take too much yes !! It’s hard to get dose right , I’m taking 1 sachet at night with 1 scoop optifibre in day , but it does work x

Thanks again. I'm certain I'm battling candida in general but glad to hear its normal with bowels and constipation.

Apple juice is worth trying, say 1/2 pint in the evening

Try a handful of dried raisins in breakfast cereal every day. This is what helped me a year ago. It took about 3 days to work but first thing in the morning is best time. I only have them occasionally now and bowels gave been fine. Wish you well

Daily glass of coconut water

Have you been to a doctor, had all the tests and diagnosed with IBS-C (constipation dominant IBS)?

You probably have a bacterial infection of some type. Maybe H Pylori. I discovered this natural tincture called Dragon's Blood. It is the sap of a t tree that grows in South America and has been used by natives to heal wounds and get rid of intestinal bad bacteria. It has worked amazingly for me. Tastes bitter than hell but it works wonders. Here is the Amazon link to the brand I bought. amazon.com/dp/B00HZYJV0E/re...

It sounds like you need probiotics to get things moving. Holland and Barrett (if you live in the UK), they sell a probiotic (30) sachets for about £12. Honestly if you take it about an hour or two before bed this will get rid of constipation.
