Having a flare up

What is going on, for months I’ve been ok and now BANG I’m having the worst flare up I think. I haven’t done anything different except have my tooth out and I’m under so much stress, but I’m always stressed, I just feel so bad, my stomach is gurgling but no diahorrea, I feel so nauseous but not being sick , I feel unsteady on my feet and very off balance, I don’t know what I want from this post, just needed to vent I suppose. Thank you for reading and any feedback would be really appreciated

It's horrible when you have been doing really well, then suddenly get hit with the worst flare. I know. Last summer I had weeks feeling totally normal, then suddenly flared up for no reason I can understand.

When you said you'd had a tooth out and the flare might have started from that, did you have antibiotics just before your tooth was taken out? If so, maybe your gut flora has been affected, and a probiotic would help?

Hi Luisa22 thank you for your kind reply, no I didn’t have antibiotics but had 3 injections in my gums, so maybe that started it off and I’m always so stressed lately so that doesn’t help, just feel yucky and haven’t felt like that for a long while, it’s seem to be a viscous circle with me lately . Take care

It could be the injections. Those always have made my heart feel weird. They speed up my heart and give me palpitations. Once I nearly passed out from them. The dentist said they put some adrenaline in them. I didn't know that,

There's always some stress about going to the dentist too, and having a tooth out is more stressful than just a check up or something. Maybe that's what got you?

Hi Cimmy, have you tried the Nerva app for IBS? It’s a hypnotherapy course that has certainly helped me and it is supported by good evidence. It’ll help you de-stress. Have a look on your phone’s App Store.

You vent away lovely! We all need an outlet!

I have a theory that the less flare-ups we have the harder it is to deal with them because we are less accustomed to doing so. I've nothing to back it up except my own experience but the flare-ups I have these days seem more painful and more intense than they did when my symptoms were almost constant. 🤷‍♀️

As to why now we'll I ask that all the time and never have an answer. I suspect that the answer is why not. Really helpful, I know.

My wonderful counsellor explained to me that stress is like layers or straws on a camel. 1 might be no bother. 10 or 20 and you can manage but 21 is too much and you break. In your case, and mine, that 1 extra straw or layer causes a flare-up. Try to see where you can unload a bit of stress if you can. Even if it's just handing off the housework to someone else or doing what I did last weekend and literally switching of my phone and ignoring everyone for a few hours. You need to take care of you too. X

You too!De-stressing isn't easy and modern life definitely makes you stressed but it's worth carving out some "me time" where you can

I’m fit Hi Luna child, and thank you for your kind reply, my flare up came out of the blue, and it had knocked me for six, I was wonder maybe it has started because I had Covid a month ago and still don’t feel quite over it, so maybe that had something to do with it, I’m just clutching at straws I think, I just feel so yucky right now😔 but your kind reply has given me comfort

Hi so sorry you are having a rough time. Being off balance and feeling sick could be a ear problem. I always have an upset stomach after having anesthetic local or general.

Tressed and Hi and thank you for your kind reply, I was fine until I had my tooth out, so I’m a bit suspicious as to whether the injections could have started this bad flare, I’m just off balance because I think I’m so stressed and having this flare up has upset my whole body in some way.

I’m on medication for IBS but only take it as needed and I’m always careful with my diet, so I think you might be right and it is tress related, I’m so stressed now because of my flare up and this is a viscous circle I think. Thanks for your kind reply’s it really helps. Take care

Cimmy, it will pass in its own time. I know it's horrible while it is happening. Sometimes flare ups seem like they won't ever go away but most times they do ease up. Be gentle with yourself, take it really easy if and when you can, eat simple foods that calm your tummy. It will pass.

I HATE flare ups!! Grrr!

In my experience, stress is definitely a major contribution to IBS flare-ups. Mine have been even more unpredictable since Covid 2 years ago. Rest does help, and, for me, gentle exercise. I do hope you'll be better soon, best wishes from Anne
