S969, before involving digestive enzymes and probiotics for IBS it's important to look at digestion as a system and it's controls that reside with the brain and the vagus nerve and others that reside in the gut. Most of these components require activated thiamine for proper function and yet there is a sizeable list of anti thiamine factors that diminish or destroy thiamine. Without adequate magnesium to activate thiamine and also vitamin D, which can regulate gastrointestinal inflammation, IBS at this level will be hit and miss to treat. This information is intended to broaden your understanding of IBS and you should consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.
Hi S969, actually that is what has helped me more than anything! I have been searching ( and researching) for a year science my abdominal pain started. I take Solgar multi enzymes with meals ( ie twice a day for me), and a probiotic daily. I can now eat anything, instead of the uncertainty of the low fodmap diet. It seems to me if I have trouble digesting, causing pain, slow transit etc, enzymes might help and they do!Of course I’m not completely back to where I was, but it is hugely improved!
Personally I would recommend them, I chose those ones specifically as they cover a lot of enzymes needed to help digestion, I have also had some useful guidance from the online Holland and Barrett advisors.
Good luck,
I’m trying this at the moment. Since adding the digestive enzymes I have hardly any wind which was keeping me awake at night.
