Diverticulitis Advice
I don't have any advice but just wanted to say how sorry I am for your father. If you want to unload or chat or catch up, just drop me a message.
Hi Philbs1980
I really feel for your dad and its awful for you to see your dad suffering.
I've just had a search and came across these:
healthline.com/health/home-...
listentoyourgut.com/diverti...
Sending you my thoughts.
liverdoctor.com/what-really...
informs that people with gluten intolerance who continue to eat gluten
have an increased risk of diverticulitis. I found this information is now out of date, as wheat on its own has 27 different proteins to which people may react to. Multi grain allergy or food intolerance is more common than thought. I had tests linked to the NHS through a pharmacy chain and had many hidden food intolerances to dairy egg as well as grains wheat rye barley - malt derivatives vinegar drinks foods whisky..mayonnaise corn starch maize..it has taken over two years to track these pesky intolerance in foods masked under different names such as Sorbitol. Now after removing these intolerances I am much better. The test was a two minute finger prick smart test(nutrismart) with results back within the hour in a private room with case history taken and referral back to the NHS if necessary.
Hope your dad improves. You can buy gluten free food from Marks and Spencer where cakes are made from rice flour.
Hi I have diverticular pockets and have been fortunate only to have one flare up which thank heavens did not result in antibiotics. Its not very nice to have a flare up and understand how your dad feels.
Everyone is different but suggest looking on the nhs website. I followed their diet advise and it was good for me. My best wishes to your dad
Hi I was diagnosed with diverticular disease in 2017 after having a CT Scan luckily i needed no treatment however the consultant in the hospital informed me to either quit eating red meat or have it once a week , take fybogel every day cut out white bread and drink lots of water and quit alchohol , I did all those things ive not had a flare up since but still get some occasional discomfort which they expect you to get as its for life, Hope it helps
I have diverticulitis and there is not a lot of information I have found. I have a high fibre diet of whole meal bread, all bran for breakfast with raspberries, banana etc. I avoid very fat food eat lots of vegetables- carrots, sweetheart cabbage, squash, parsnips, sprouts, beans etc.
Look at labels to see fibre like half tin of beans on whole meal bread is very high. Lots of fruit with 1 kiwi fruit per day, apples, pears bananas
Try to drink as much water as you can .
Personally I have one actimal yoghurt per day and Yonken yogurt over fruit for puddings.
This diet suits me well but I have found I can eat roast beef but not a medium rare steak,
Shortly you may be able to give me advice , all the best
Hi I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis as well my GP put me on Fybogel and also I found a fibre called Insulin from Holland and Barrett I take this twice a day it is pleasant to take also my Gastro Dr said to take antispasmodic for bowel pain and bloating and she has asked my Gp for antibiotics if I get a infection when I need them but since I have been taking the Fybogel I feel a lot better as its the fibre you need to keep you from getting constipated that's my problem I suffer terrible with it I hope this helps.
Hi, I've only just come across your post. My hubby has this, too. He had to cut right down ok red meat (like a bear with a sore head he was!!). Only eats wholemeal bread, very little butter, cut out as much fried food as possible,.tho I have caught him making the odd fried bacon sandwich,.sometimes lol . Good luck and best wishes.
