hi guys,

Anyone else get nausea with their Ibs, along side the d and c. I’ve found I’ve lost my appetite because I just feel rubbish. Then I think the nausea comes because I haven’t ate much.. I don’t know. So emotional and down over feeling poorly. Sometimes it just helps hearing that others do feel the same :((

Yes, nausea and sometimes too mach saliva at the same time. Like you, when I have it Im never sure if its worse when I dont eat, but cant be bothered eating to find out. Just try and stick to ginger tea-but I absolutely empathise, its horrible and exhausting.

I was like that for a few months , I find omeprazole helps and also anti sickness tabs ondansetron. Sometimes a biscuit helps too, gluten free. Only take one ondansetron a day now and it seems to work. Also eat little and often. Have been bad for over a year. IBS Cand reflux. My diet very bland chicken and veg. Toast. Plain gluten free biscuit. Dairy free spread. Drink mainly bottle water. Little coffee in the morning. Have bought an electric bed, raise my head at night, sleep much better helps the reflux. You have to see what works for you

Yes. Ask your doctor for something to control it. I have Metclopramide. I used to take Omeprazole for reflux but it caused agonising cramps and I lost my sense of taste. Try Cimetidine.Sometimes the nausia can be caused by eating something your gut cannot tolerate. The three top intolerances are dairy, yeast and wheat. Some people can't eat eggs either.

I can't have dairy, yeast, oats, sunflower oils and dextrose.

Are you on the Fodmap diet?

I had a look at the fodmap diet, I’m very fussy though so it didn’t look great LOL. Had a sick bug in Dec so I’ve kind of cut most things out. Unfortunately going off of meat too. Eating bland and basic small meals. Some days I feel like eating loads and others less. It really depends!

Fizzy drinks of any kind can upset IBS and garlic and onions are a big no no. Avoid greasy or fatty foods too. The only veg that don't upset IBS are carrots, spinach and lettuce. Potatoes if you can tolerate them. There are a couple more listed on the Fodmap list. I know it's very hard to resist eating what you want but in the end it's a choice between nausia and cramps with diarrhea or feeling better with fewer symptoms.

I am on a very limited diet. I don't eat meat, only chicken fish or as a food. I stick to the few veg mentioned and don't drink alcohol or chocolate.

It's boring but it keeps most of the nasty symptoms away.

Yes and it’s very miserable, and I completely empathise with the lack of appetite and weight loss. I have days of reprieve when my guts might be still bad, but the nausea stops and it such a relief and a pleasure to eat something nice once again. However I’ve no idea what helps with nausea - I don’t know if it’s linked to a build up of gas in the intestine…? tried deflatine but that gave me awful stomach ache. Tried various pro biotics but they don’t seem to make any difference. I’ve also tried digestive enzymes and they seemed to help for a while…but I still had IBS flare ups . Can’t find a link with any of the fodmaps. I’ve been up half the night in and out of the loo - stomach felt like a horrible old bicycle tyre, seems there is nothing that helps but I am thankful for the days when it’s not too bad. Good luck and if you find something that helps do please share 😊

I have had IBS for 10 years mainly IBS D but some alternating symptoms. I am currently on10 mgs of Amitriptyline taken usually 1 to 2 hours before bed. This is for IBS D as it dries you up somewhat and you need to drink plenty of water. I think it is better to drink bottled spring water if you can or filtered .I live in a hard water area so I prefer to do this.

I also learnt Transcendental Meditation years ago so make sure I keep up the practice. I find yoga very helpful too. I don't eat meat anymore but still eat fish but eat a fairly plain diet and small meals . Exercise is important. whatever kind you prefer but I do try and have lots of walks. When I have a flare up I avoid fried foods, cake chocolate etc and I don't drink alcohol or have fizzy drinks. Also too much fruit and certain veg can cause problems. It takes time to manage this condition but it is difficult as what works at times doesn't always work. I think the meditation and Yoga are the best and I am currently taking an AyurVedic course on line through the TM centre as IBS is one of those conditions that seems to be a bit of a mystery to most doctors so I prefer the AyurVedic approach which is centred on an Individual and more integrated approach with general health. I believe much of IBS is related to stress and western diets and lifestyle.

Absolutely. In fact it was the first symptom of my first bad flare up in December. On the 25th! It’s awful as you want to eat something but your stomach just churns to look at a plateful of food. I’m now on Mebeverin and fingers crossed haven’t had many symptoms since getting it into my system.

Fermentables usually are the cause. Fruit does this to me. 25 mg. over the counter Meclizine solves the problem.

Yes, I always feel nausea rather than pain. It drags me down so much. That and running to the loo!!! Like you, I really don't feel like eating anything or drinking, come to that. You have my sympathy Babyel. Can't suggest anything to help as, I can't help myself. You're not alone. I take Mebeverine. Does it help? Who knows? Can only suppose it does.

Yes, for me worse in the morning when I wake. I try to eat very small amounts and just drink water. Until it eases. I am considering asking GP for anti sickness tablets. Hope it improves.

Yes I feel nauseous a lot of the time it’s awful 😞 I find it harder to deal with than the pain. I’ve tried all sorts to try and relieve it. I’ve found that sipping on Lemonade and cold water with lemon eases it a bit. Also, having a plain biscuit. I find it’s worse if I’m feeling hot so I have a fan nearby and always have the windows open. Hope this helps and bit x

Hello, Yes years of nausea and the alternating D & C. I take promethazine (Stemetil) for the nausea when it's really bad. Feel generally unwell, sore insides, achey and tired with flare ups every few days. Often reduced to just dry toast or dry crackers for a day or two. Bland dull diet too and no alcohol as it goes straight through me. It's a hard condition to live with. Good luck.Katerina1
