IBS connection with weather changes

This is just an observation that I would like for others to notice. My flare ups are always triggered with severe air pressure changes and approaching of storms. I live in Ireland for 7 years now and since we moved here my ibs took to worse. I found all of my food triggers. FOODMAP helped me in that. The only thing I can’t change is the weather. With approaching fronts I get migraines and my tummy starts to rumble. As I spend sometime abroad (Croatia) I noticed that there my flare ups are sparse and I can even indulge in occasional gluten or ice cream, which would normal caused trouble.

So I thought it’s worth to mention that climate change, weather patterns becoming severe it has something to do with our condition as well.

Yes, I find in the summer my tummy is more runny and in the winter it's more bunged up. I put in down to the hot weather in the summer and I thought it was the cold weather making my tummy less runny and so making more constipated in winter but more recently I have put it down to the fact that the central heating is drying out my system. I prefer Spring and Autumn!

Hi! I m Cristina from Italy! Good notice! Here we have many sunny days but still when climate changes, My belly can feel it, especially when it turns to storm or snow I can feel a few days before also with head pain. I have the feeling that people suffering from ibs are generally more sensitive on changes of any kind (could be moving, traveling, new experiences, etc.). I heard the word belly iper sensibility for the first time some weeks ago, and guess it is very connected to IBS. What do you think? All the best, regards from Italy!

Yes you are right. All that changes are connected with stress (a change that causes your body’s response). In Croatia was long time ago acknowledged that some people are reacting to weather changes and there is a name for it - metereopathic. How is it for you in Italy, I mean considering gluten free products? Are you on gluten free diet?

Air pressure maybe? It can cause migraine which I also have suffered from for most of my life and anxiety, stress etc are all linked to both conditions.

I hope no one minds that I'm bringing up an old thread from a year ago. But I just googled "weather changes make ibs worse" and it brought me here.

My weakness is rain. I can't understand it. When the weather has been dry I am better. It doesn't matter if it's cold and dry or warm and dry. I am great on bitter cold frosty days and even was in the dry heatwave last summer.

But when the murky warm gloomy wet weather comes it sets off my ibs D. It's a mystery to me why that happens.

Yes the same is with me. Harder is with murky, gloomy days

I have a bunch of other conditions, and it seems everything is worse when the weather is cold / humid / rainy / grey. I guess you could say that's when I feel "under the weather."
