Does anyone else think their IBS flare ups are more frequent the older you get.

Used to be about 4 times a year in my forties, now lm older seem to be getting more.

Has anyone found that the COVID injection bought on their IBS

Yes ,I am now in my 60s and my IBS has got progressively worse , more flares and lasting longer . I have also developed other symptoms ,dizziness , leg numbness and extreme tiredness , loads of tests nothing found !! Had the covid vaccine got a flare lasting 6 weeks after ! Sorry to depress you and hope it doesn’t happen to you !

I definitely think my flare ups have got worse and more frequent. So much so I ended up in A and E twice because of dehydration. The doctor there told me there is no such thing as IBS and that I had underlying stomach issues and needed to have a colonoscopy to discover why I am so ill and to eliminate colon cancer. The doctor said IBS is a catch all term and really there are stomach issues we individually need to assess. Now I am so confused and awaiting my colonoscopy appointment which is scheduled on 7 Feb.

Good luck with the colonoscopy, I’ve had two.Doesn’t help when a doctor is so dismissive, think if they had experienced IBS, they would think better

Thank you...I must learn to cope better with stress as I definitely think that's a major factor.

Sorry your Dr said theres no such thing as IBS so why is there IBS charity's, support groups etc, Dr doesn't know what there talking about smh gl with everything

I'm finding it harder to cope with as I am getting older. I'm almost 64 now and had it since I was 27/28. I didn't make a note of the day, it started, often wish I had! 🙂 I don't have flare-ups, mine is everyday, has been since my son was born 29 years ago. Before that it was about every other day. But it does seem to be getting worse. Didn't have a problem with COVID injections but think I may have had COVID back when it all kicked off, without any symptoms. My husband thought he had it (but there were no tests at the time). But since then my IBS has seemed to be different somehow, I seem less able to work through it, it's more painful, and giving me headaches and sometimes migrane type symptoms as well as nausea!

I’m 70, started in my forties, but only a few times a year.Since I had my first jab last April, my symptoms have been almost daily.

Buscopan helps me, and dr gave me Lactulose for constipation, but I find Senokot better.

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could take medication and it would all go away

My IBS got worse during my 40s (I'm 52), much more frequent and 4 to 5 days of awful pain every month, so I started writing in my diary when it flared up, and it was linked to my menstrual cycle (known trigger for IBS apparently!). In 2020, I ended up in hospital with a serious abdominal infection, and after tests, they found a large ovarian cyst and one of my fallopian tubes was chronically inflamed (this was causing the regular bouts of pain). Since I had a hysterectomy, I've been pain free. If you're experiencing a lot of pain, I'd recommend asking your GP to refer you for tests. Also, I can really recommend hypnotherapy as stress is notorious for triggering IBS.

Yes I'm 42 & never had problems before until I turned 39 or 40, it's so frustrating trying to get help wen u cant even see a dr these days, I hope you get better at coping with it

I think IBS flare ups happen party because of stress. I am a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist and The Lotus Sutra, English translation by Burton Watson is probably the easiest to read, is the doctrine. This practice is not outside myself so it helps me deal with life.
