iron anaemia with IBS
Hi Chriss, are you taking this in tablet/pill form? Or is it liquid? There is a liquid version which is much gentler and doesn't tend to make you constipated.
Hi i also have severe iron deficiency and cannot take the iron tablets so was prescribed sodium feredetate which is a gentle iron liquid which is usually prescribed to children. I take it after or with food rather than on an empty stomach , ask your gp for it x
Thanks I’ll ask doc cheers
Your welcome x
I have had an iron problem twice since 2016. No real reason why, although I do have two small none malignent tissueson one of my kidney, ct scanned regularly, I have ibs and diverticular, and I get constipation some days, but never more than 30hours without going. At first I had those horrible fumirate iron tablets, but it gave me so much trouble, 2 year ago I was sent out local outpatients hospital unit where I was given it through a cannula, bypassing the stomach and bowels. I would certainly look into asking for that, and two sessions 2 weeks apart, at an our a session is much quicker and effective than say 6 weeks on ferrous fumirate!!!!
