SIBO test, treatment, and Covid booster

Sunshineonmyshoulder profile image

After dealing with liquid stools, bloating and weight loss for months, I'm finally getting tested for SIBO on Wednesday and then, assuming I'm positive since all the other tests were negative, starting the antibiotic protocol (Rifaximin). Somehow, I've neglected to get my Moderna booster (I had my 2nd shot in March, three days before all my bowel troubles started). Is it okay to get the shot while I'm taking the antibiotic, after I complete the antibiotic, before I start it -- or doesn't it make any difference?

You definitely should ask your doctor this question before you get the booster.

Yes, I'm having it done through a gastroenterologist.

Hello I was diagnosed with SIBO and has the antibiotics. They didn’t relieve any of my symptoms. They think I’ve got a slow emptying of the stomach and I’ve got to have a scan. I’m glad you’re being tested it’s awful thing to have.Let me know you’re results. Amber x

When I just got my Moderna booster, the paper I had to fill out asked if I was having other vaccines.. or taking autoimmune medicine. I told them that due to a sprained shoulder (from chronic constipation) I was taking steroids (Methylprednisolone) . They said that was okay. It might be best to let the pharmacist or whoever is giving you your vaccine by telling them what you are taking. It should be okay since autoimmune is is usually taken by those with kidney failure etc. But better to be on the safe side just in case. The booster they give is only 1/2 of the original shot..
