I was recently diagnosed with gastroparesis after an emptying scan and my doctor's suspicions due to my symptoms. The treatment is a "diet" called a low residue diet. It consists of 4-5 small "meals" throughout the day, low fat, low fiber, easily digestible foods, with last meal about 5pm.

Here is a good site that explains it: mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

Best wishes to you, hang in there, it is manageable...

✌️🙏😀

I too have the pain, the nausea and totally lack of energy. Also the thought of food or even a cup of tea, makes me feel sick. I told my doctor if it wasn't for my family & friends, I would happily curl up and die. He didn't even listen !! I am on Mebeverine which helps with cramps. I take sachets of Laxicol .....some have a miracle effect, some explosive nd sometimes I don't go for two or three days. I take Colpermin and also Paracetamol to help not feel so awful. Life is so awkward. I have to turn down work as I need to be close to a toilet all day.

I've had Endoscopy, Colonoscopy and X-rays. I have asked for a CT/MRI but doctor says he cannot arrange that !!??

Is it worth spending all my savings on going Private?

Hi Oscar091, I have seen my gastroenterologist, she gave me a thorough examination and was quite sympathetic. However, her letter then referred me to a dietician, which I was subsequently told, had to be via 'Webinar'. In other words a Zoom meeting, which is not a one to one. Now my doctor said he will arrange an actual dietician to see me. I still think I need a CT Scan. I haven't lost weight like you though, which I fully expected to as my appetite had dropped lately.

Good luck and thanks for the offer.

I am the same (weight wise), I used to way 10 stone from 2000 up until 2 years ago (I have had issues for 6 years now). I gained weight, I am bloated a lot… only stomach area. I am not sure if it’s only because of the gastro issues, or where it’s also impacted by me being so inactive as I have zero energy.

Hello

Good luck for you’re app. I had it done in the last 6 months.. had to eat microwaved egg.. took me 40 mins to eat. Study showed slow transit. Was in hospital for 4 hours. Ask if you can see the monitor when you go back ( they send you off to eat something and walk to get digestive system moving). Mine showed most of the food was still in stomach.

Also note, when you are having a good day, if that’s the date of your app, this study is not conclusive, so you may still have slow emptying.

I know they say to eat smaller meals, but for me.. it takes up to 2 hours to manage a small side plate of bland food.. if I was to eat 4-6 a day… I would not get much sleep.

Have you thought about meal replacement drinks? My dietician has me on these now to help fatigue and when I feel blood sugar is low.

Keep pushing and don’t take no for an answer. No one is a better to speak up to health providers than you. X

Hi Oscar091,

Yes, I’ve got gastro paresis as took a long time to get there but SIBO. I had colonoscopy and gut transit test. Gut transit is a couple of tablets for 3 days. Then X ray. Am on a prokinetic - helps movement in gut. You might want to google Migrating Motor Complex.

I’m currently in bed as I’m a fatiguee. I’ve been around the houses as was seriously unwell with malabsorption. But I’m female with a history of depression. Male doctors concluded I don’t eat properly. Nope I’ve coeliac disease.

So, I take Betaine hcl with pepsin to break down my food in stomach.

you can test for stomach acid at home. Dilute half a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate into a glass of water. First thing you drink in morning. If you don’t belch within 15 minutes- you haven’t got enough stomach acid. Some people recommend apple cider vinegar.

I bought a Small and intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth kit - it’s a breath test. I had an extreme reaction so no result. Worth thinking about this. I waited and waited still on loads of supplements, fibromyalgia symptoms, poor appetite, GI symptoms thought to hell with it.

Had gut microbiome checked - finally in black & white - lots of bad bacteria and NO probiotics in my gut. Which explains fatigue, why I need magnesium, iron etc etc. And can’t break down lactose. They make your own specific tablets for you.

In hindsight, wished I’d just had microbiome done first. A huge learning curve. This area of medicine has very little coverage.

Best wishes
