Colonoscopy prep not nice!

Had my colonoscopy on Monday which showed diverticulitis in sigmoid colon. Other than that all good.

The procedure was painless and I found it interesting watching my insides on the telly! What wasn’t good for me was the Plenvu prep. Took 3 hours to work and I had extreme belly pain to the point I was doubled up. Seems it affects people in different ways but for me not a pleasant experience!

Not nice - but sadly essential! I’m with you all the way! Horrible prep isn’t it!!

I had moviprep which is taken over a longer period of time and involved my being on the toilet for several hours and experiencing a lot of pain! However the consultant stated that my colonoscopy was easier and clearer because my colon/bowel etc was so ‘clean’ - essential for accurate diagnosis! On that basis I’m glad I endured the horrible prep so I don’t have to repeat the process!

Wishing you all the very best for the future!

Hello. Yes I have the same sigmoid diverticular, prep for colonoscopy are the worst and gives stress and tiredness gastro grafin is the worst, used for my virtual ct colonoscopy. Actually should be taken off the market, some case studies have see some patients having to go to A and E with other side effects. Glad all OK. I have IBS and a hiatus hernia so my tummy is never what most people consider normal. Quite hard balancing a diet though. Cut out peas, nuts, none soluble veg like corn on the cobs. Don't eat any fatty foods now. No bacon, sausages or fried bread or egg, and KFC and Mcs gave up anyway on grounds of Rainforest depletion for cattle and soya. Good luck👍

I have my colonoscopy booked for 9th Nov. I wasn't worried about it but now a couple of people at work have told me it really hurts and to get sedation..feeling anxious now 😫

Please don’t stress yourself about the procedure, yes the feeling is odd but the sedation is there to relax you and it works. The doctors and nurses in with you will make you feel at ease and will answer any questions. I found it fascinating watching the scope’s progress on the screen! The only slight discomfort you might feel is when they inflate the colon a bit with air. I will warn you though that the prep is nasty.

I also had Plenvu 10 days ago. Second dose so disgusting. Couldn't quite get through it before throwing it all up! Worked fairly quickly though and in bed after 2h 20 mins. It did leave my stomach feeling really uncomfortable though and still a bit sore across very lower abdomen. To add insult to injury, Dr wouldn't do the sigmoidoscopy because my heart rate was too high. Anxiety had set well in. Can't bear the thought of having to go through drinking all that again,

Try not to overthink it. The procedure isn’t painful, maybe just a little discomfort when they inflate you. Take the sedation they offer as it’ll relax you. Hopefully you won’t react to the prep like I did and you’ll be fine!

I’m not bothered by the process just the anxiety about any horrible findings 😐
