So I'm entering week 7 of pain and 2 loose stools in the morning and maybe 1 in the afternoon.

Can ibs really cause this to carry on for 7 weeks!!

I'm having a panicking type day today I can feel it. Can't get to talk to a doctor until next week and I'm losing my mind with worry!

Sorry I'm just incredibly confused and frustrated.

IBS, by definition, can last as long or as short as it wants to, all you as a sufferer can do is try to alleviate some of the symptoms, and make it more tolerable. Have you tried the Fodmap diet? or removing groups of food? increasing or decreasing your intake of water? There are so many different ways to try to attack the syndrome, and, unfortunately, everyone is different and has different results from the same system of attack, that the syndrome is very much an individual's adversary alone, to battle. Let's hope your GI consultant and the GI team can unlock some doors for you. In the meantime keep trying, keep well and keep safe.

I wish I had team, my gp has told me it's ibs and everyone is different. No blood test, no stool test no nothing. Apart from a upper abdominal scan and a pelvic scan.

Its so worrying and frustrating. I have a phone call next week so I will be pushing for answers.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Being 32 I should be out enjoying the school holidays with my children but instead I'm just worried and distracted and in pain.

Mine end to stay for months once the fare starts. And even if I'm not flaring I'll still have some type of tummy ache every fay it just doest hang around.

I have no.idea what sets mine off, food doesn't seem to affect it, I've cut out coffee and white bread but still no improvement.

Just pain all day every day and 2 to 3 loose bowel movements every day for the last 7 weeks. Fed up now.

What are your symptoms? Have you had many tests to confirm.ibs? I've not had any.

I was diagnosed 28 years ago and mostly I have had it under control but I got COVID-19 in November and was very ill and since January I have had this flare up had loads of blood test and stool samples which was all normal now waiting to see a gastroenterologist but they said it could be awhile before I get seen. I have always suffered with IBS D but over the last month I seem to be going between IBS D and IBS C which I have never done before and the pain in more in middle of back feels like it's in my spine more than my normal stomach cramp I usually get but I will just have to wait for an appointment with gastroenterologist which I hope is soon as it's really getting me down at the moment. my symptoms was everything I ate just ran out of me constant stomach pain and cramping lots of gas and wind but now it's middle back pain constantly and going between D and C. I hope yours settles soon and u get the help u need

Cheery123 this link is about a clinical trial with vitamin D3 for IBS relief. Vitamin D3, like thiamine, needs magnesium to become bioactive. Boron is also enhances the utilization of D3. Research the thiamine form TTFD for anxiety. IBS too if you haven't already. . Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.

Yes, Unfortunately IBS can last for years. I've had it on and off for 40 years and severely for the last 15 years. I control the pain by limiting my diet to only the foods I know I can eat. Have you tried the Fodmap diet? It shows which low soluable fibre foods you can eat. Although not everyone can eat all of the foods on its list. Many can't tolerate oats/porridge. I can't eat any fruit at all and only carrots as a veg, occasionally spinach and lettuce.

IBS can also be affected by intolerances. The biggest offenders are dairy/lactose, yeast and wheat.

Meantime, don't drink fizzy drinks, fruit drinks or alcohol.

Some medications can cause pain. I can't take Omeprazole or over the counter antacids.

Thank you for you reply. Sorry to hear about your struggle.

I'm going to be asking about a food intolerance test, and a blood test at my appointment next week. They've not bothered with any of it. They haven't even mentioned the diet people have mentioned on hear.

Just sounds like ibs. Hard to.control. end of. Its just not fair that there are so many of us struggling.

Yes, I know. People just don't understand what it's like. Doctors don't really understand it either. There's always hope. Take care. Hugs.

I am the same. Always seem to be in pain and have watery stools sometimes when the pain kicks in. I get wind and bloating as well. I’m currently having a flare up and I just want to curl up in a ball. I have had the pain on and off for years and the gp always says the same it’s probably ibs. I had an upper abdominal scan what shows I have gallstones. I had test for wheat intolerance which came back fine. But it’s the pain that gets me. I get the pain mostly on my right side which I thought was my appendix but my GP says it’s not. What worry’s me the most is my nephew was diagnosed with chrones and colitis and had a stoma fitted in the first lock down. I’m also a single mum and if something happened to me my daughter is alone. I feel if I go to my GP again they will think I’m pestering again. I’m afraid of doctors/ dentist as it is. I’m just stressing out so much with so many things going around in my head. I don’t know what to do. I would be interested to hear where other people feel their pain.

Oh I'm so sorry you leave feeling like this. It really is just awful.

My pain I felt throughout my Lower abdomen andbl just under my belly button and ingetnpain on my left lower side just next to my hip.

Feels like dull crampy pain. That change as the day goes on. Nothing helps it.

I think we need to put on our big girl pants and demand more from our doctors!

I guess we do need to be more assertive. You just believe what the doctors say to you and carry on. I’m going to have to get on to the doctors again.

Hay Cheery, I am sorry to say this type of episode can last up to 4 months in my own experience. It is very difficult to jump out of the cycle once you are in it. It does very much matter what you eat, and your mental health status. I don't have the answer because it's different for everyone. But you should have a few days grace now and then, and it is in these short periods where you have the greatest chance of jumping out.

A daily journal has always helped me to get out of cycles, writing down what I have eaten, when, how it felt during and after. How I am feeling, as this leads at some point to those moments of grace. These are, in my view, the building blocks to recovery from an episode. But I would just add that you can be in a week or two of this recovery and very easily fall back into it.

I know it sounds mad at this endless cycle, and how hard it is to think it's not just IBS but something more at play. Certainly, go for more tests if you have not already had them just for peace of mind. If you have, then it's just your system doing its thing.

Hope you feel better soon though.

I had an IP address boat that came on suddenly in the middle of last October and ended probably suddenly as well though not quite as suddenly, in the middle of December. 2 months. Fine since then. Still, I think if you are concerned I would go back to my physician and ask for more test. I was given an ultrasounds, a CAT scan and a colonoscopy, spread over six months mind you , here in Canada

Thank you for your reply, I think until I've had more test I will always worry and questions is it something else!

I'll be requesting more tests next week on my phone call appointment.

IBS has caused that symptom manifestation for me (and worse) for years. Which is not say that the diagnosis is IBS, in my experience, IBS is a “rule-out” diagnosis” -docs attempt to be sure that the symptoms are not from something else before concluding an IBS diagnosis. However, if it reassures you re: the severity of your symptoms- i would say yes, you could have “only” IBS. (It can be debilitating. IF you do have IBS , i encourage you to look at YouTube and google research about Monash University’s FODAMP treatment. In 40 plus years, the eating plan is the only thing that provided significant relief for me (I also take Linzess when having IBS -C), Good Luck! behj
