What are the experiences of people who have tummy issues and their relationship with milk?

What milk have people found to be tolerable with ibs and related tummy issues?

hi, I drink Arla lactofree milk and eat cheese made from the milk of Jersey cows. Both free of lactose and my intestines seem to tolerate both. I'm living in the Netherlands but do think the products might be available in the UK too.

I drink lactose free skim milk. Other options are almond milk, oat milk, and several others.

Hi there. I buy lacofree milk. It tastes just like ordinary milk. But doesn't upset my stomach. I also buy soya milk to make porridge with but I dont like it in tea

I'm in the uk and drink Tesco's own lactose free milk it doesn't taste any different to normal milk.... it's cheaper than the branded lactose free milk and is nicer to my tummy 😉

I make my own oat milk, which is cheaper than buying it in the shops and doesn't have any additives like salt.

I drink any lactose free milk and almond milk. Oat milk is good for most people but beware if you have a problem with gluten

I use the oatly oat whole milk. No gluten mentioned in the ingredients.

I take a lactASE tablet every morning and can tolerate any kind of milk but pre lactase tablets the best milk was evaporated or sterilised. Just thought I’d mention that evaporated milk smeared on eyelids stops itching instantly. Con amore Bx

I have not been able to have milk for years, there are loads of different substitutes out there for you to try as some might affect you while others don’t, I can’t tolerate lacto free milk either I use soya milk but most of the time I just don’t bother with milk.

Yes it is lactose free for me too. Fortunate for I can get milk, sour cream, cottage cheese , ice cream and regular marble and Swiss cheese all in lactose free. Superstore is great for these items. BUT still have to watch. Cannot drink a full glass of milk it still bothers me but in smaller amounts I am fine.

After advice from a nutritionist I swapped to oat milk. Along with lots of other diet changes now my ibs has improved

Thanks everyone for comments about milk.

At the moment I'm trying Almond milk for cereal and oat milk for porridge.

I will see how it goes.

Hi. Completely agree with nearly all of the 'Lactose Free' comments as above (plus it's much much cheaper in both Sainsbury & Lidl) but just wanted to add, that I used to get the old familiar gut aches & pains which we all know & love, when I was out, and had a latte or capuccino. However, on one occasion a year or two back, my son bought me a large latte (which I was dreading but didn't want to hurt his feelings) He'd bought a soya latte &, lo & behold, I was fine with it! It's not always the case & it can still set off symptoms but less so, and, more often than not, a soya coffee is much much better for me.
