I was curious to know if anyone else had come across the Karolinska Institute's research into the SI Gene and IBS.
I started doing some research into my family tree a few months ago to determine which of my relatives had any problems with IBS / bowel conditions. I was aware that I had one relative on my father's side that had some type of bowel problem and was curious about if this was something that could be passed down through the family.
I discovered that there was indeed a relative that did have IBS, when I dug for more information I found out that it limited what she felt she could do, was embarrassed about it and didn't go out much due to it. It was never really spoken about and my father didn't know what it was until he asked my grandma.
Does anyone have any opinions on this study specifically? I wasn't sure if it had appeared here before at some point but the SI Gene being faulty really intrigued me and I wonder if it was passed down through my family. I take after my father's side of my family far more strongly than my sibling does so it that way it would make sense to me that this could have been something I acquired through that line.
