You'll need to go to your doctor to get this investigated, since acid reflux shouldn't be left uncontrolled.

IBS and reflux often go hand in hand, due to the gases produced which weakens the valve that sits between your stomach and your throat allowing stomach contents including acid to flow back. You might be able to help reflux using usual IBS remedies trying probiotics such as Alflorex first and failing that a low FODMAP diet. You may also need to look into acidic foods that may be triggering you such as tomatoes or citrus fruits. Mint is another no no since it weakens the valve. Even mint toothpaste can do this and most toothpastes contain mint. I use one that is flavoured with fennel instead.

You can raise the head of your bed by 20cm using plastic risers found on the internet to keep the contents of your stomach in place.

Having said all of this, your symptoms need to be discussed with a doctor.

You should raise your head end of the bed by placing chocs of wood or something similar, also do not eat for at least two hours before going to bed. You should avoid spicy and acid-type foods. Most importantly you should contact your GP and ask for an urgent referral as when you feel heartburn your esophagus is being scarred and burnt. Get well and stay safe.

I get this when I’m slightly overweight. My consultant told me everybody has their own threshold, pop over it and back it comes. You could try over the counter ppi like omeprozole 10mg. Also make sure your h pylori clear because this bug causes reflux

The acid reflux travels up the esophagus from the stomach and is the acid used to break down food. The best way to reduce it, at night, is to raise the head end of the bed, however you should, if it happens frequently, contact your GP as the acid could well be damaging your esophagus. It is called heartburn because it feels like a fire in your heart, but also because it does burn through your esophagus so DO contact your GP. Get well and stay safe.
