John, do a search on" thiamine IBS" and "IBS vagus nerve" as a possibile cause for your condition. These are forms of thiamine to research their pros and cons... Sulbutiamine, TTFD, Benfotiamine and thiamine hydrochloride. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.
Hi buddy got similar problemsGot the same medication
Gaviscon and Omeprazole do the same thing, Omeprazole being prescription drug, Gaviscon over the counter stuff and not so strong. I'm on 20mg pills once per day or if severe 2 per day max. There are side effects with all drugs. When I started on Omeprazole I could eat anything I desired without worry, now days I limit the use to only when required, maybe once a month as they compromise other health issues I have.
Do yourself a big favour and check out all the side effects of what drugs you are taking
Anxiety also causes flare ups. Check with your Dr before mixing drugs incase of a reaction.
A lot of people cannot tolerate Omeprazole or other similar (proton pump inhibitors) drugs as they cause stomach pain and worsen IBS. Try toast or ginger biscuits instead of antacids.GERDS and IBS seem to go hand in hand. IBS and acid stomach reflux can be caused by the wrong bacteria or an over proliferation of the wrong gut bacteria in the bowel. Medications particularly antibiotics can alter your gut microbiome. Getting the right gut bacteria can be extremely difficult. The low Fodmap diet will really help with IBS and aleviate some symptoms but it doesnt really encourage eating the right foods to correct your gut bacteria. But, and it's a very big but, eating foods that do encourage good bacteria cause big problems with stomach pain, cramps and wind. Probiotics don't really get to the large intestine alive and anyway they only cater for a handful of the millions of different strains of bacteria that live and are needed in the gut. So, what to do? Eat healthy with only "proper" foods for months and months, no processed or fast foods, no nasty addatives like sugar substitutes, low salt, no alcohol and put up with pain and other symptoms or follow thd fodmsp diet and stay safe but cut out what you can in the way of nasties. After 45 yrs of IBS and food intolerances I chose to follow a limited diet and stay pain and wind free but it's a boring diet.
Hello 👋 I am interested in your ‘boring’ limited diet for IBS. Can you tell me what foods you can eat to rule out symptoms. I have taken out out all fatty food - biscuits, cakes, chocolates etc and no processed food, only fish but still have wind problems. Could it be plain roll and gluten free bread that I still eat? Many thanks
I may be different to you because I am dairy, yeast, sunflower oil intolerant and i am allergic to dextrose. I can't eat bread products so eat Farleys baby rusks for breakfast or just as a snack biscuit. They don't contain anything I am intolerant to.
I have chicken, meat but not pork and rarely lamb ( i like steak or mince )and fish with potatoes, spinach twice a week and baby carrots. I eat half a kilo of carrots with my dinner. I love them and they keep me regular without pain or problems. I can't have gravy though as it usually contains yeast, dairy or dextrose. For tea I have a tin of plum tomatoes mixed with a packet of microwave Tilda basmati rice or eggs or tomato omlette. Basmati rice is lighter than other rice. I occasionally treat myself to spag bol made with the tinned tomatoes, but pasta isnt really that good for IBS. I also love pancakes.
It's difficult with intolerances, some are easy to discover but others like my sunflower oil intolerance was quite difficult to find out.
I still find I need the loo several times a day but it's more normal and not accompanied by cramps.
I have other medical problems for which I have to take medications. All my medications contain lactose so that probably has an accumulative effect on me and isnt good.
Considering a lot of people are lactose/dairy intolerant these days, lactose is widely used as a filler in medications. Its even in IBS remedies such as Colofac. Hope this info helps.
Hi John, unfortunately, doctors tend to prescribe Omerprazole and Lanzoprazole assuming that you have excess stomach acid when very often the opposite is true. Taking antacids like Gaviscon further reduce the acidity of the somach contents and result in incomplete digestion of long chain molecules like proteins. When these undigested nutrients get into the small intestine, where they don't belong, the immune system causes inflammation to fight off what it sees as foreign bodies. I used to take Omeprazole on the instructions of my doctor, but my problems actually got worse. I now take Betaine HCL with Pepsin with each meal containing protein and my digestion has significantly improved. I am probably deficient in other digestive enzymes as well because I still can't eat FODMAPS, so I am going to try a broad spectrum enzme supplement. I can't say that you have low stomach acid because everyone's physiology is different, but I recommend that you ask your doctor to test your stomach acid levels.
Hello 👋 I had the same problems with a fluttery stomach and found that 10mg Amitriptyline (lowest dose) stopped this issue. Also Colpermin for IBS is really good for flatulence 😊. Oh, and peppermint organic teabag from Marks and Spencers - only £1 for 20 teabags, which again, helps settle the stomach. Hope something works for you. Take care.
