Can any one tell me why you can only take buscapan for 2weeks x
I am assuming you have bought these rather than getting them from your GP. So, again assuming that's what it says on the packet! As far as I am aware you can take them as long as you want as they are only an anti- spasmodic. But I would say that I tried them some years back when I was coming to the end of my menopause and within about an hour or so of taking the first one, I started bleeding. I was none too pleased as I had nearly got to my 2 years without a period. I phoned the chemist and she said that can happen. She said it was probably my body getting rid of anything left inside me. I was worried that I might have more periods but I was lucky that was my last one. But it did mean that I had to start counting down the months again. And it was a really painful period. And my doctor gave them to me to help with pain!!
When I first had IBS, 35 years ago I was given colofac (now called mebeverine) which did nothing at all!
If you have bought them from a chemist, it might be worth checking with them, as I believe it said something on the packet about people over 40 having to be careful with them. But I assumed they would be okay as my doctor had prescribed them. I should have known better!
No medicine is completely without side effects for some so I expect the makers are covering themselves. I have glaucoma in one eye and so cannot take Buscopan because it increases pressure in the eye. However, despite a warning to that effect at the top of the enclosed instructions, my GP prescribed them for me. Luckily I read the paper before taking them. I now take Colpermin and Mebeverine though whether either helps much is questionable.
I have been on buscopan 2 three times a day for months ....doctor put me in it so I don’t know who said only two weeks ?
Do they work thx you
