Pressure in Bottom

Have suffered with IBS and divericular disease for over 40 years. Have had many flare ups over this time. However, over the last few months I am experiencing more or less constant feelings of pressure in the rectum. Wondered if anyone else suffers with this. I have got a pessary fitted to try to eleviate the symptoms of a cystocele. Many thanks.

I get this when my IBS-D flares up. Sometimes it's wind but sometimes it's a clear but smelly liquid. I go to the toilet but the relief is often short lived.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. It is really depressing at times and I agree, if indeed, you get any relief at at all, it is short lived. The only times at present I get any sort of relief is lying down......

I have to work during the day. When it's bad I resort to nappies and just let go rather than keep running to the bathroom. As I say sometimes it is just wind but other times that do the job until I can get changed

Feel for you. It can be so debilitating

I’ve never tried nappies, I actually had an accident on the way home once which was harrowing 😩 there’s just nothing that comes close to the embarrassment... I’m scared to go out and I think nappies wouldn’t hide the smell but definitely better than spending your day scooping your insides out of the car and trying not to let the neighbors see 🤦🏼‍♂️ But today is another day I suppose, have you tried immodium? I’m scared that I won’t be able to go and the cramps remain as the pain goes after pooping and that’s just a terrifying thought sooo I haven’t tried it ....

Imodium upsets my stomach too much

I use Tena pull ups for going out

They give me some cover re wet farts

I only wear full nappies at home, usually in bed but sometimes during the day

I garden in nappies so I don't have

to keep going back indoors

I'm used to messing a nappy and van live with it for a while

Aww sounds like you really do suffer like I’ve been this past year, I just can’t imagine having this for the rest of my life 😭 I’m only 39 and it’s been a shocking experience so far, my partner and I have only been together a year so it’s difficult with the flatulence etc... he’s really supportive but it’s just soul destroying for me.

Yes it is difficult. My partner and I sleep apart when it's bad

That must be hard, I find myself hiding away from people and not wanting to go out.

I too find myself lying down more and practically living upstairs in my bedroom as that’s closer to the loo 😭

Hi wellsam..This sounds like what im suffering for past year. Ive had ibs all my life but past year i experience wind with fluid. Weird thing is this happens every week for a few hours then clears. Ive had FIT test bloods and nothing found except colonoscopy to get at some point..I have to stuff tissue at my back end its so embarrassing and has taken over my life. Does this sound like what you have

Yes sounds similar. Never had a proper diagnosis. Colonoscopy and tests showed boring. IBS-D what was left

Cones and goes. Bad for a day then passes

I use Tena pants to manage it

Thanks for the reply. I will look into the tena pants and order them for sure. I have been very worried about this but thankfully no weight loss or blood ever. So maybe its hit me harder as im getting older and the body changes.

I’m having the same symptoms at the moment, I feel like I’m not fully empty and I feel pressure in my bum that feels like I need to push but I've been 3 times to the loo already, I definitely am fed up with it.

Hi thanks for your reply. I am also fed up, but also worried that it is something else. Hope you feel better soon.

I think that everyone has that thought in the back of their mind as it’s so unbearable at times and how can it be so common as it’s not really spoken of. There is a sort of stigma as I’ve never heard anyone talking about going for a number 2 and the consistency/frequency of their stools 😳 (especially girls I mean most girls try to act like the don't poop or have wind). So to have IBS and a really bad flare-up is something embarrassing and we try desperately to hide our shame... it just adds to the stress and therefore exacerbates the condition (vicious circle). Anyway I’m rambling a bit, have you had any tests? I’m still having some and it’s scary but I think it’s important to put our minds at ease. You should definitely speak to your doctor to be safe. Everything I’ve had so far is clear and I have the same symptoms as you hun, I do hope you feel better soon 😊

Perhaps I am lucky, but a have a close friend who also has IBS and we discuss all of our symptoms, including accidents with each other. You might mention to people you talk to that you have IBS (without going into any more details) and you might find that someone you know also has it. Then you would have someone to share the misery with.

I have been struggling for a while and have pressure in the rectum most of the time. It is worse for me in the early hours but I just have wind and don’t go to the loo despite feeling I need to until after eating. Have had all the tests all clear so that is the good news! Always worry when I go out.

☹☹

Hi Hill Rose I'm sorry your struggling with this, I too have both these conditions and each one bring different things. I also get this pressure I tend to try and sit sideways a bit to take the main pressure away a little bit. I hope you find your answers soon. Xx
