pressure on my bladder

update doctor got back with results. Apparently over 1,000 red blood cells in urine and E. coli in the urine as well. Going back tomorrow to test again as he thinks infection is still there. Has anyone suffered with this as I’m wondering where the ecoli came from in my urine as I didn’t have diahorrea (quite the opposite) and wasn’t sick. Thanks again for any help

I had constant urine infections and took so many antibiotics that I’m pretty sure that’s what started my IBS. I had a few tests at the hospital which revealed nothing untoward. The consultant told me to drink at least a litre and a half of water every day. That was two and a half years ago and I’ve never had a urine infection since. Hope this is of some help.

Can’t comment on the blood, but E. coli (of which there are hundreds of species) is part of the commensal flora of the gut, and most are completely harmless. With the best will in the world, it is always possible for any bacteria to find its way into the urethra, and some are believed to protect themselves from the acidic environment using a “biofilm”. In fact, when they do a urine test, they ignore any quantity of bacteria less than 100 million per litre, which just shows how much is there normally!

Unfortunately, some of us are more prone to urine infections than others (can simply be a structural issue with the system), but hopefully the ABs will get the little blighters this time.

I've had many utis , a terrible amount of antibiotics...around the menopause mostly.

2 alternatives work..if you are female...vaginal cream which sets up a barrier to the general urethral/vaginal area (which worked for me.) And lately , as I am 72, a tablet that coats the bladder , called Uro fem , D- Mannose. Ingredients apart from the D-Mannose are as far as I know not part of the treatment and hopefully on the manufacturer's website....tearabiofarma.co.nz (they are a bit detailed).

It was explained to me by a specialist as a natural sugar which I dont understand, but it has worked. No bladder pain and usually decent intervals between toilet trips.

2 months on 2 tablets of 1 g per day and about 6 weeks of 1 tab per day. I guess I will wait and see what happens when they are finished but the cost was $30(15 pounds) per month.

I asked if there could be a link to ibs and the spe islist said if your bowels and stomach are sensitive then its likely your bladder will be too.

I wasnt given antibiotics because although there was a high white cell count there wasnt an infection and I had already had one course of them. Good to know GPs are more vigilant about that lately, in the past I would have been told to wait a week or so to see if it cleared up or given more antibiotics.

Thank you I will look into that. Doctors suggested getting a very good probiotic so going try that first. Thanks for your reply.

Best natural remedy for any bladder infection is cranberry juice….it works by stopping any bacteria clinging onto bladder wall…works for both men and women.

My experience of cranberry juice was not very helpful and I see you're talking a serious infection.....some people have told me they have beaten it by drinking a huge amount of fluids....one was a sugary drink....but I think this was right at the very beginning of the infection.

No it was helpful I’m sure if I had caught it at the beginning it would have helped but unfortunately I had no lead up problem till urine turned to blood and pain awful. It was very strange as in the past I’ve felt it for days then I’ve tried the cranberry but this came from nowhere. Thank you again don’t ever think your advice is not helpful it will always help someone and made me feel better when so many people cared
