How long after might I have a bowel movement?

Hi,

Does anyone know how long after a cleared volvulus (sigmoidoscope and decompression) should I be having a bowel movement? I had diarrhoea initially, but nothing substantial in 3+ days, currently there is clear fluid and gas coming out. As someone who is nearly always constipated, should I take the laxido?

Thank you

I think it might be helpful but think you should check with the hospital. I had a surgery last year, my small bowel and after having eaten a full meal the day after surgery in the hospital and being discharged the next day I was told that I could take a laxative three days after my surgery if I hadn't had normal bowel movement.

It’s anybody’s guess. We are all different. I should let the bowel settle before starting things up again. Try bed rest and fasting for at least twenty four hours as the bowel has been through enough. Also, those sort of interventions play havoc with your mind. Just take it easy and think of yourself with love and kindness. Con amore Bx
