IBS...yet to have a diagnosis, PIT test?

So it all started back in January, out of no where I'd get the sudden urge and be desperate to go to the toilet. At the time I just put it down to bad food/diet, yet it continued and found my self then going to the toilet 4-5 times a day, some one after the other.

I had blood tests done to check for the normal stuff, liver, celiac, iron etc and a stool sample, all clear. I was prescribed Mebeverine and Lansoprazole. Didnt help at all. By then all the pain had started, it started in what I was told was my large bowel but now it wrapped around my whole abdomen and back and is constant.

Went back to the doctors and they've ordered an ultrasound and a PIT test which is to screen for bowel cancer. Now my anxiety is through the roof and I'm going to the toilet even more. Anyone got any suggestions to calm the pain normal over the counter stuff isn't helping, it feels like there's a balloon in the ride side of my abdomen

All I can say to you is go for the tests and try not to worry easier said than done but you need to get those tests and only by doing so will you get closer to knowing what you need. Are you gluten sensitive I am and I no longer need lansaprazole since cutting it from my diet I still have the full pack sat in a drawer unused? It's an idea not necessarily advice.

Hi shawzy you could ask for some codeine. It helps with the pain and also stops the diarrhoea.I was diagnosed 20 years ago when I was going to the toilet about 6 times a day too and had constant pain. I had all the tests, including colonoscopy, barium enema etc and they were all clear. No cancer.

I am taking loperamide (imodium) now. I did have Dihydro-codeine recently because I had hip replacement surgery but I had to stop taking it because of an allergic reaction to my skin. A warm hot water bottle or wheat bag helps too.

HiThe FIT stool test is a marker for blood that you can’t normally see.

It’s quite a standard test they use to make the decision to then order a colonoscopy. Your other tests like the blood and ultrasound would possibly have given other indications if it was sinister! Have you lost weight, do you see mucus in your stool, do you have a close family history of Ibd? How old are you? Have you recently ( before January) had a gut infection or food poisoning?

This can lead to certain intolerance in the digestive system. Please remember that bowel cancer is detected in less than 5 percent of investigations, and even then it doesn’t mean the worse. Also if your doctor thought it was that from the start they would have sent you to hospital on a two week wait referral. Maybe you should ask what blood tests were taken other than the usual. Ie CEA and CA119. They may have tested for these and be found to be normal
