Wet farts

I have been working through a flare up, but am at a stage where my biggest problem is wet farts. My other incontinence issues are in abeyance, but I have a real problem that when I fart it is almost certain to be wet. Sometimes a small amount of poo and/or mucus comes out as well. I have not had this before so persistently. It is particularly a problem when I walk as I am less able to control it. I messed myself earlier when I was out for my daily walk and it made me feel like, well the contents of my pants!!!

Does anyone else suffer from this? if so how do you manage it?

I don't actually have this, but always have trouble getting clean these days, so I always wear a thin pad attached to my undies. It just makes me feel safer, just in case! Have you thought about something like this. There is a lot of stuff out there on-line, from pads to pants!

Do you suffer from severe constipation? You can get overflow diarrhea and wet farts/leaking when your stool is impacted.

No I rarely get constipated oddly. I have trouble keeping in it!

There is no need to tackle this alone. If you are in the UK you can contact your local NHS continence service. You may or may not need a GP referral for this. It is probably also best to speak to your doctor first, since they may want to re-run some tests. I don't think you should be looking after this on your own in case it is something else or you have a condition that can be helped by specialists.

You're not alone! I have had this, but only for a day or two at a time and fortunately I can usually control it, especially now when I'm at home nearly all the time. I just go to the toilet when I feel the urge to fart. It's not pleasant. I agree with the suggestion to wear some protection like a sanitary pad or even just a panty liner.

Thanks. I use nappies at night when my IBS is really bad but cannot wear them outside. I have used pads and pull ups but I get very anxious about them leaking.

Good luck with your consultant

I have come to find messing myself at home a little bit funny as long as it is not too often. There is something about walking around in a heavy nappy in the morning that tickles me.

But outside is a complete nightmare. Coming to terms with it myself had been hard enough, but the thought of others knowing fills me with fear. I have become worried that my neighbours have seen me put nappy sized bags in the dustbin most mornings of late. I have taken to keeping them by the door until it is dark.
