I’ve been getting stabbing pain above my belly button, the pain then goes to my right side and back, I feel nausea, today my stomach is crampy and feels all gassy, and pains on both sides and back. Could this be signs of gallstones or gastric problem or something worse? My anxiety is going crazy now . I’ve just started taking esomeprazole as my gp thinks it’s trapped wind but I think it’s more serious than that.

Is this gallstones
The problem is that so many things can sound and feel alike as far as the gut is concerned. If your GP has done a CT scan and then come up with his conclusion, he is probably correct, otherwise he is just guessing and using the realms of probabilities to make his diagnosis. It could be your gall bladder, appendix, or even BAM (Bile acid malabsorption), but that is me using the realms of probabilities. If you do no improve within a few days then I would ask for a referral or at least a CT scan. Good luck, keep well and stay safe.
Thanks for your reply, no ct scan nothing, just I tell my gp my symptoms and they prescribe me esomeprazole, can’t even get to see her it’s all over the phone but the past few days it’s been horrible not pain that it floors me but pain enough to get me down and it don’t go away
I sympathise, it is so difficult trying to explain symptoms over the phone! I can't even get a phone consultation! I think pain from gallstones would be higher up on the right. I have "numerous small gallstones" but haven't had much pain. I've been waiting months for a MRI scan for another problem ongoing for over 6 months, but with covid overwhelming hospitals it could be another 6 months!!
I have asked 3 times to be seen face to face so they could press on my stomach etc but all she wants to do is throw tablets at me, I’ve managed to get a blood test booked for Monday, I’ve asked to have a scan too she just said wait for your blood tests first, she said my anxiety and stress isn’t helping my stomach issues and she’s probably right but her not seeing me is stressing me out.
Hi sorry to read about your pain. It could be trapped wind but also it could be stones trying to move. I get the same pain from the right hand side round the back and sometimes very severe. I had a scan and that showed I had a hernia by the belly button no mention of gallstones, but the consultant sent me for a MRI which showed I have stones and inflammed gallbladder. I will be having a op to remove when covid over. I have it under control and find if I eat to much food in one go it can trigger it off. The pain is really unbearable if I have a bad attack. Sometimes just mild and goes within a few hours. The only way to find out is to ask go for a referral or MRI . Wish you better .
Google and read h pylori. If you haven’t already been tested for this bug. Lot’s of good stuff on YouTube
My gp has just rung and booked me in for blood tests for this, so going Monday !
You need to ask for a stool or breath test also. As blood will only show you have antibodies even if infection is not there
Oh is it a pointless blood test then? As I hate needles but will have it if it gets me answers but will ask my gp for the other tests too
No it’s ok. But normally is stool or breath test. You can get the stool flow tests on Amazon for less than a tenna next day if you fancy that approach
Symptoms areGas, wind feeling of pockets of air in guts, gripping feeling, tender belly, funny smelly stools, pain, reflux, and anxiety coz the bug lowers the serotonin in your body. Oddly also feeling like you want to clear your throat
The acid reflux effects the throught. Try rasing the bed 6 inches but it takes at least a week to feel any differance.
How long could this last for tho as I’ve had cramping around belly button for 5 days , don’t feel so nausea today tho thank god.
If it’s pylori you need strong antibiotics and symptoms can last for a while afterwards
Thank you
Blood tests came back all fine so back to square one , not sure where I go fromHere
Hi there I have gallstones the pain I get is just under breasts mainly right side and it goes into my right shoulder as gallbladder is just under right breast , also feels like I’m being crushed , so the pain your getting is lower down , so fingers crossed not gallstones x
Pansy2
You described perfectly the way I felt prior to needing emergency surgery to remove gallbladder. I initially suspected heart attack as the pressure right under breasts was so great. Felt like a band around my body squeezing - being crushed as you describe it.
I stopped wearing a bra for months thinking it was that lol , I did end up in a and e because I thought I was having heart attack was sweating and pale with the pain , x
😂 I avoided wearing a bra as much as possible too so I understand completely. Yes, I believe the ER doctor initially suspected heart attack with me also, but blood tests in my case indicated very elevated lipase levels indicating the pancreatitis. My liver enzymes were elevated also. Both liver enzymes and lipase level returned to normal following the surgery
They thought I’d pulled a muscle or bad indigestion took months to get a diagnosis I still have my gallbladder full of stones x
I had 2 abdominal ultrasounds and a HIDA Scan to check liver and gallbladder because of suspected gallbladder problems and they never definitively indicated a problem and 3 months after the HIDA scan I ended up in hospital for emergency gallbladder removal! I had continual upper right back pain during all the testing. And finally the squeezing pressure / pain prior to the surgery.
Bet your glad it’s out ? Can you eat what you want now ? X
Within reason - but if I over do on some things it causes problems. The surgeon told me he guarantees if I ate a big cheesy slice of pizza now it’d cause problems - but I’ve got NASH liver disease too, so not supposed to be eating pizza anyway.
My own experience with gallstones prior to needing emergency surgery to remove gallbladder was squeezing pressure higher up than you are describing. Mine was right below the breasts. Intense squeezing feeling of pressure that I initially thought could be heart attack. Turned out to be acute gallstone pancreatitis and required surgery to remove the gallbladder. I hope you get answers soon
I cant diagnose what it may be. But ive had similar problems for a long time. I tried other ppi's but esomeperazole suited me best. The only thing i can suggest is to keep calling your doctor till they send you for scans on tummy. Be very careful what you eat. I avoid all dairy, chicken and fish. No onions or anything spicy. Cook vegetables until really soft. Avoid brocolli and cauliflower. Avoid any gassy drinks. Try peppermint tea. Hope this helps.
