Hi hash, IBS can be a scary thing as effectively its a term for covering a dysfunction of the digestive system which the doctors aren't too sure about. You've never seen blood so thats a huge positive. Also remember your young age - the c word for a 17 year old is so so so unlikely. Another thing to note is that anxiety makes IBS 10 times worse. Unfortunately its a cycle of bad IBS, bad anxiety - I know as I suffer from it all the time! Please do book a GP appointment as they will be able to do stool and blood tests to rule out the nasties.
Thats all good news! If you are very concerned and seeing symptoms that aren't typically associated with IBS, then push for an appointment with a gastroenterologist. I was diagnosed with IBS and anxiety at the same time, and ill admit there are sometimes thoughts in my mind "surely it can't just be IBS?" But I've come to accept the condition over time. I would recommend speaking to your GP again and telling him or her your fears, and also speaking to close friends and family for their support.
So I have had all the test blood test fit test and ultrasound all normal my liver pancreas my kidneys gallstones all normal and then three drs has examine my stomach to see any lumps but nothing is felt and also the seen my back and nothing found. All.normal
Hi Hash. I sort of got lost in your emails so this is just a general comment. If the doctors are saying that all the tests came out fine, then you don't need to worry about the big stuff. You said that you had the fit test and I believe that is the test for colon cancer. So you don't have that. Your stomach ache could be stomach irritation or a small ulcer which can be easily cured. Loose stool and constipation are typical of IBS, the term they use for all gastro problems that they basically can't identify. In other words, they test you for all sorts of things and find out what you don't have, and then if they still can't figure it out, they call it IBS. For some people bulk, like psylium, helps in both constipation and diarrhea. Or sometimes not. Each person is different. It also seems that you are extremely anxious, understandably, but that can cause diarrhea easily. I have been anxious my whole life and know from experience how it can effect your bowels. Have you ever considered trying to get help with your anxiety. Youtube is full of all kinds of information and videos that could help you calm down a little. If your stool improves when you use psylium, keep using it.
It is hugely unlikely that you have some serious illness if all of your tests came back okay. Now you need to relax and try and get control of your anxiety.
Hi there I'm always feeling that dr might have missed something and us like I might have tumor or polyp in my colon that why I'm constipated and having loose stool really upset.
Loose stool and constipation are the most common symptoms of IBS. You have had more tests done than most people and they are all clear. I think Xjrs answer is a great one. Meanwhile, try out different probiotics, try psyllium and yogurt, and just keep calmly searching for what will help you. But you need to treat your anxiety which is possibly the whole cause of this.
Hi, try giving up dairy. It worked for me.. have lactose free milk and cheese, no cream and u should feel much better...
Hash87677, your GP has told you it's not serious. You keeping asking lay people to tell you the same, which they do and say to refer to your GP. Have your asked your GP about help with your anxiety? Until you get help with that you will keep asking the same questions, worrying and make things worse for yourself. You say when you take psyllium your stool is formed, so keep doing that.
I have both chronic prostatitis and IBS. Both bowel and prostate contain smooth muscle, which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system, over which you have no control. It is well-known that this can be influenced by stress; in the case of digestion, this is a very complex process which can easily go wrong without there being any physical defect. I think Job387 has nailed it.
Hello Hash, I know how easy it can be to get caught in the cycle of worry and anxiety about your symptoms. As everyone else has said, anxiety exacerbates IBS. As someone else suggested, please try going to Youtube and typing in ‘health anxiety’. There are loads of youtube tutorials which try to help you overcome this very debilitating condition. It would also help if you talk to your doctor. Take care.
I found it helpful to understand that the physical state of my body was making me vulnerable to anxiety - pressure in my bowel and gut were producing sensations that also occur when people are anxious, my brain was picking this up and thinking the sensation must be fear and there must be something to be afraid of and jumping on anything it could come up with to worry about. I agree with what others have said, it sounds like you need to do something to help yourself deal with your anxiety. Whether that's reading self-help books, looking online for ideas to try, watching relaxation videos or talking to a doctor or therapist or to friends is really up to you what you feel you can cope with best. I sometimes find it helpful to repeat inside my head 'everything's ok right now' when my rational self thinks there is really nothing to be anxious about but my subconscious self keeps worrying. Anything you can figure out now about managing your anxiety is going to be a tool you can use to help yourself for the rest of your life, so it's well worth putting some time and effort into. Best of luck!
