Quite common to get bile acid malabsorption following gb removal. Look at bad-uk.org website for info and push your doctor for a referral to gastro for a sehcat scan which is the only way to get formally diagnosed. Or ask them to prescribe cholestyramine or colesevelam which are bile binder meds. If they work they pretty sure you have bam. Sometimes called bile acid diarrhoea or bile salt malabsorption. Push for a referral as I suffered for years and meant I’m severely deficient in a lot of vitamins which had had other affects. GPs don’t know enough about this condition. Mine apologised to me after I got diagnosed. He’d never heard of it!
Hi,
How are you?
It takes a few months, maybe 6 , post gallbladder removal for things to really settle.
If diarrhoea continues then your Gastro Dr should be looking at Bile Acid Malabsorption.BAD. If your in the uk you can get an nhs SecHAT test for this.
I had my gallbladder out about 4 years ago, and in the last year my tummy/bowel troubles have slowly got worse.
Now with likely BAD, maybe liver bile duct blockage..awaiting lots of tests. Suffering a lot of pain and constant diarrhoea.
I do hope yours settles. Be careful what you eat (avoid dairy, acid, oily foods) and drink lots of water.
