Diagnosed with IBS

Evening, for 3yrs now ive had bowel problems. Each time i go to the loo im in for hours, visiting the loo up to 6 times per day until i empty full bowel.

I have no cramping, bloating, and do normal poo until it gets softer & softer until full bowel empty.

Ive had camera work in, up, down and all is fine, they class it as IBS but im unsure.

Ive read everything about IBS & i have no symptoms of it.

Any help, advice would be much-needed.

Have you been tested for gluten allergy, small bowel bacterial overload (SIBO), lactose intolerance etc? There are more tests that can be done before giving out a diagnosis of IBS.

I was said to have IBS for 40+ years with diarrhoea until I investigated and was eventually diagnosed with Bile Acid Diarrhoea (BAD) which can be treated. You say bowel movements are normal, but it's not normal to go so often. You could look at the website bad-org.uk and see if any of the symptoms match you.

Many thanks for your reply.

I have been tested for everything & all came back fine. Camera work done also, all fine.

I had my gallbladder remover 10yrs ago & they thought it was bile acid, started me on powder meds but that didnt help.

This started nearly 4yrs ago and was told it IBS, now its causing hemeriods and that's a another issue, hand in hand with constant bowel moments until i empty bowel but because i visit the loo so much in the one day its causing hems.

This came out the blue one day, im fit healthy, dont drink or smoke, eat well etc

Docs/hospitaljust keep saying IBS.

Hi

I'm going through something very similar. I'm going on average 4 times a day (sometimes 2, sometimes 6).

My poop...sorry tmi coming...has become pasty and it floats and I have to wipe a lot.

I'm having some more tests done at the moment because up to now everything has come back ok, except for very low B12, vit D and iron, so between this and the floating poop they think I have some absorption problem.

I also feel hot, sweaty and anxious every time I poop. I have now started to think if maybe the pasty sticky texture of the poop might be making it difficult to pass even though it doesn't feel that way.

Jeeeezuz, sorry for the essay. So basically, I can't help but you're not alone

IBS is an umbrella term and based on a diagnosis of elimination. Like you I also don’t suffer from bloating and cramps or any pain. My doctor diagnosed me with bad gut bacteria which used to cause a lot of gas. He then put me on a low absorption antibiotic called rifaximin. That totally cured the gas. Definitely improved the D too. I too suffer from some food allergies again very mild. No adverse effects even if I do eat the food on my no no list. Which is mostly diary. I have researched over time that I may suffer from something called functional diarrhoea which is believed to be a sub category of IBS d. Similarly there’s function constipation also. I would suggest get a food allergy test done. Not specific to lactose or Gulten. But all foods. Try cutting them out if diagnosed with same. I just consider myself lucky that I have mild IBS d and and no pain. Also flare ups are once maybe six seven months. As I said IBS is an umbrella term for something that doesn’t fit in any other category. But consider this good. As the other categories are more serious issues.
